Key job responsibilitiesAs a Principal Applied Scientist in Advertising Trust, you will spearhead the strategic research direction and drive innovation through cutting-edge machine learning techniques (specifically with a focus on generative AI and large language models). Your responsibilities encompass defining key research goals, conducting rigorous experiments, publishing impactful results, and ensuring seamless translation of research into practical solutions for Advertising Trust use cases. You will develop long-term strategies, align cross-functional teams, and deliver on ambitious goals through effective leadership and collaboration. Additionally, you will contribute to organizational planning, talent acquisition, and mentorship initiatives, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning. With technical expertise and a passion for scalable science and engineering solutions, you will serve as a key scientific resource throughout the full-cycle development process, from conception to deployment. Through cross-functional collaboration, thought leadership, and active contributions to the scientific community, you will position Amazon’s Advertising Trust as a pioneer in the field of gen AI-powered advertising content moderation and labeling. Your key responsibilities include the following:

* Lead and conduct advanced research in Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI, and Deep Learning, with a focus on developing novel algorithms, architectures, and methodologies for advertising content moderation and labeling.* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research scientists, engineers, and product managers, to translate research findings into practical applications for Advertising Trust use cases.* Contribute to the development of state-of-the-art natural language processing (NLP) and computer vision systems to automatically identify, filter and/or label advertising content.* Develop innovative techniques for labeling and categorizing advertising content, ensuring accurate and transparent targeting and compliance with Amazon’s advertising policies and regulations.* Publish research papers in top-tier conferences and journals, advancing the field of AI in advertising content moderation and trust, and establishing Amazon as a thought leader in this space.* Mentor and guide junior researchers, fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing within the team.* Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI, LLMs, and Generative AI, and identify opportunities for Amazon to leverage cutting-edge technologies in advertising content moderation and trust.* Present research findings and proposals to senior leadership, influencing strategic decision-making and shaping the direction of AI initiatives in advertising at Amazon.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - Ten plus years of directly related experience- PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Linguistics, or a related field, with a strong focus on Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Large Language Models, and Generative AI.- Extensive hands-on experience in conducting research and developing innovative solutions leveraging LLMs, Generative AI, and Deep Learning.- Comprehensive applied knowledge and experience in end-to-end ML model development and deployment life cycle from ideation to model launch and maintenance.- Expertise in programming languages such as Python, PyTorch (preferable), TensorFlow, and experience with deep learning frameworks and libraries, generative AI related frameworks like LangChain, HuggingFace etc.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Ad Tech Experience- Human Moderation Automation- Advanced Applied Content Labeling- Advanced Applied Rules Engines- Relevant world class publications- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle complex research challenges and develop innovative solutions.- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.- Experience in leading and mentoring science teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.- Passion for cutting-edge AI technologies and a commitment to driving innovation and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in advertising content moderation and trust.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $309,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
