We recognize it's the unique contributions of all of us at Meet Minneapolis that drives our success, and we're committed to building a culture where everyone can thrive and find meaning in their work.Meet Minneapolis HIGHLY encourages candidates of diverse backgrounds, particularly BIPOC candidates, to apply.POSITION SUMMARYMeet Minneapolis, a not-for-profit organization contracted to market the City of Minneapolis as a destination for conventions and leisure travel, is looking for a highly motivated journalism, public relations or communications student to work with our PR and Communications team as a paid intern for the school year (September - May) and possibly the following summer (June – August).An ideal candidate will be someone knowledgeable of the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area, including downtown Minneapolis, events, arts, entertainment and culinary offerings. She/he/they will work closely with the Senior PR and Communications Manager, and should also be able to work independently, think creatively and demonstrate strong writing skills.The intern will assist the PR and Communications team as they work directly with journalists, bloggers and Meet Minneapolis partners – such as restaurants, hotels, entertainment venues and more – to ensure Minneapolis is seen as a premiere travel and convention destination by media, as well as event and convention planners and the general public.JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESThis individual will assist the PR and Communications team in many aspects of work, including, but not limited to the following:Write, edit and post Meet Minneapolis news releases;Write content regarding Minneapolis as needed;Tag stories and assist with media lists in Cision;Respond to media requests as directed;Post accolades to website, and assist in updating media kit;Gather news clips and impressions pertinent to the Meet Minneapolis audience;Assist in coordinating press conferences (as needed);Research area events;Research media coverage and industry trends;Identify content for media pitches and web or social needs;Work within photo library;Other duties, as assigned.EDUCATIONActively pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Communications with an emphasis in public relations. Candidate must be in school during the full term of the internship (junior or senior students only). Graduation date must be later than April 2025.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSInterested in furthering his/her/their knowledge of the public relations and communications fieldSelected based on resume, interview and a short writing evaluationSKILLSWriting & EditingArticulate messages using appropriate grammar, usage and vocabulary;Attention to detail and proofreading;Knowledge of Associated Press style preferred.OrganizationPrioritize tasks and organize workload for efficient time-management.COMPUTER KNOWLEDGEMust be proficient in:PC computersMicrosoft OfficeBeginner knowledge of:Adobe Creative SuiteSocial Media ChannelsTIMINGSchool year (September-May) with potential for summer months extension if the student has not yet graduated;Hours are flexible based on schedule, approximately 15 hours per week;A hybrid schedule with some in-office and remote work may be available.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to:Walk, sit, bend and squatTalk and hearGrab, pull or bend itemsLift and/or carry up to 10 lbs.View items at a close and distant rangeSit, stand and walk for extended periods of timeUse computers for extended periods of timeWORKING CONDITIONSHybrid office/remote environmentSALARYThis is a paid Internship.
