Job Description

PURPOSE SUMMARY. Responsible for the delivery of health education on specific issues or with a particular population. Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion activities delivered by the Outreach and Education Division in support of the DWI program, Healthcare Initiative, and/or the department goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES.

Delivery of Health Education

Research, coordinate, and deliver high-quality health promotion programs that effectively target and address health and lifestyle risks.

Conduct prevention or health education activities for the department, and lead volunteers and other assigned staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs.

Stay knowledgeable of health promotion strategies and make sure that projects are based on evidence of effectiveness.

Develop the public health skills and capacities of individuals, and groups in support of healthy choices. Provide education and resources to outside agencies, schools, and county residents at the community resource centers, etc.

Serve as a community advocate by providing appropriate health promotion information, referrals, and other support services as needed.

? Program Development and Evaluation

Provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation; recommend and implement changes and improvements.

Assist with coordinating grant-related programs and community resource center activities.

Identify or develop supplemental materials for education.

Research and purchase teaching materials, videos, and other resources that will enhance the learning experience.

Assist with developing and coordinating activities at the community centers.

Utilize a capacity-building process with consumers and community members to identify the needs of the rural communities.

Assist in the research and development of new and innovative curriculum and instructional methods based on assessed needs and demand.

Research and stay abreast of Bi-National trends in services for application to assigned programs.

Identify training needs arising from local or national trends.

Communication

Meet with the Health Promotions Coordinator and program staff on a regular basis.

Represents the department and assigned programs at meetings or conferences as requested by the division manager.

Develop media messages and campaigns as appropriate. Produces leaflets, posters, videos, PSAs and brochures.

Promote and disseminate information for division and department activities to increase participation through information exchange with local service providers, community projects/programs, school districts and governmental agencies.

Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations interested in public health care.

Facilitate the prompt and accurate submission of information reports or data as required by funding agencies and division manager.

Compose correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, requisitions and other documents.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS.

A. *E ducation.* Bachelors Degree in Social Services, Public or Community Health, Family and Consumer Science, Education, or related field is required.

B. Experience. Two (2) years of related experience in health promotion, program planning, program administration, or community educ tion. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

C. Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County policy.

D. Licenses/Certifications. Valid drivers license. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with County policy.

E. Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, drivers license record, etc.). Must pass background and driving record check. No DWI conviction within three years of application and must not be convicted of such while employed in the DWI program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

Must have knowledge of: Delivery of best practice health promotion and prevention education; program planning, implementing, and evaluating; data collection and reporting; border population, and health disparities in the border region.

Must have skill in: Effective communication and delivery of U.S./Mexican Border community education; Working independently; Establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with others in the community, the County, and the Department; Operating a computer using software including Microsoft Office Suite.

Must have ability to: Communicate orally and in writing; interpret, organize, coordinate and execute assignments, projects and programs; Communicate in English and Spanish.

Compensation Range

$18.82 - $30.08
