The Adams team strives to publish content that celebrates readers where they are—and where they’re going.
We are seeking a Graphic Designer who will be responsible for the concept and execution of 20+ cover and interior designs per year across various nonfiction lifestyle categories. Cover design will range from 1/c to full 4/c process. Interior book design will encompass straight forward text to complex photographic layouts that align with the strategic vision and aesthetic for the specific project. Designers will also be responsible for the creation of photography mood boards as well as marketing collateral: sales assets, sell-sheets, video as needed. We are looking for an innovative problem solver who thrives on creative challenges!
The ideal candidate:
·Is an Adobe InDesign expert and book design enthusiast (demonstrated in portfolio)
· Is a talented designer and a master of typography with experience working on trade book interiors. The ability to deliver aesthetically driven, market viable design is essential.
· Has a solid understanding of color spaces, is well versed with appropriate use of art, and has the ability to interpret design concepts from editorial creative briefs
·Is able to work at all levels, from inputting corrections to building well-structured InDesign files for their own original designs
·Understands how their composition work impacts downstream processes, including ebook production and future print edition
·Will work closely with Art Director to ensure the interior and cover complement each other
· Will work collaboratively with Production Editorial to ensure the manuscript and InDesign document are coded complementarily and coding best practices are applied rigorously from manuscript to finished InDesign files
· Understands book production and printing standards
· Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple deadlines
Requirements:
· 3+ years of layout experience in Adobe InDesign; expert in InDesign, proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator
· 1 year or more of experience designing original book interiors with a complete understanding of master pages and style sheets
· Solid understanding of book composition standards
· Ability to read and implement proofreader’s marks
· Experience manipulating illustrations and photos in Photoshop
· Experience creating and manipulating vector art in Illustrator
·Must be organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented
· Candidate should be familiar with our publishing program and must be willing to work on all categories of our imprint
· Ideal candidate will be process driven and able to carry out job responsibilities with minimal guidance after training
· Illustration and/or hand-lettering experience a plus, but not required
