Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a digital content specialist to oversee web-based projects for Massey's digital communication channels. The purpose of this position is to help build and protect Massey's reputation and promote its research, medical care and education by providing project management and support of public relations, media relations, communications, marketing and advertising, social media, event promotions and branding initiatives.
The successful candidate will be an exceptional digital communicator, primarily responsible for website structure and content management for the Massey website and intranet. The position works under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Communications and Digital Marketing, and in close collaboration with the Massey Public Relations and Marketing team. They will work as a member of a team, under limited supervision, making moderately complex decisions independently and referring unprecedented issues to team leadership. This is a hybrid position.
Minimum Hiring Standards
5-7 years of experience creating strategy and managing content for large-scale, high traffic websites.Substantial experience writing and editing for the web; understanding of the importance of clearly defined writing.Knowledge of web structure, user experience, accessibility standards, industry trends and best practices.Experience in developing information architecture, site maps and navigation.Experience managing content management systems (CMS).Proficiency with web design software.Experience and proven success managing metadata and SEO.Strong analytical skills and use of analytic tools (Google Analytics, heat mapping, etc.)Experience working with communications and public relations teams to develop and maintain websites and consistently updating web content for various internal and external partners.Knowledge of digital communications.Proficiency with AP Style.Project management experience, organizational skills and an aptitude for managing time, meeting deadlines, upwardly managing approvals and handling multiple projects simultaneouslyExperience working collaboratively and effectively in a diverse team setting (e.g., medical providers, researchers, administration, external vendors). Must be able to work in a diverse environment.Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.Adherence to high standards of excellence regarding visual design, attention to details and accuracy.Evidence of strong communication skills, including listening, writing, and speaking.Ability to translate complex information into common terms.Ability to represent Massey well in the community and to serve as an effective first impression of the organization.Bachelor's degree in related field such as communications, marketing, public relations, web administration, project management, computer science, management science, information systems, business, English or creative writingPreferred Hiring Standards
Basic UX and web programming/coding skills a plus, but not requiredExperience in developing engaging multimedia contentExperience particularly with Sitecore and t4 platforms.Comfort with training internal partners on basic web content development and managementBasic graphic design skills or understanding of the role of design in the web user experienceExperience working in higher education or health care settings
