The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing surface-electrode ion traps using electrostatic simulation and numerical optimization.

In this role, you will design the RF and control electrodes for novel trap architectures, closely collaborating with compiler, architecture, and fabrication teams.Key Responsibilities:Design surface-electrode ion traps for QCCD-architecture quantum computersCollaborate with other functions such as system architecture and quantum circuit compiler team to determine trap concept-of-operations and optimal design strategies Partner with the trap fabrication team to design optimal sub-surface structures that facilitate trap operationPerform trade and feasibility studies of forward-looking trap architecturesProvide technical expertise as a program team leader in the identification and development of new concepts and business opportunitiesLead proposals to address future business opportunities, scientific growth, and project/process changes.YOU MUST HAVE:PhD required Minimum 4+ years of experience designing surface-electrode ion traps using electrostatic simulation and optimization and/or related ion transport waveform design Minimum 4+ years of experience applying physical principles to inform numerical optimizationWE VALUE:PhD in physics or a related field preferred6+ years of experience designing surface-electrode ion traps using electrostatic simulation and optimization preferredExperience with numerical optimization techniques, such as convex optimization, genetic algorithms, or optimal control theoryProficiency in one or more compiled languages such as C, C++, Fortran, or Rust Experience with configuring and analyzing BEM and/or FEM modelsExperience using HPC clusters, GPUs, or other parallel computing techniquesA history of public-facing work, such as patents, open-source repositories, or conference presentationsTrack record of successful technical mentorshipActive teamwork and collaborationExcellent written and oral communication skills$171,000- $213,000 a yearCompensation & Benefits:Range posted is inclusive of bonus target when applicableEstimated Salary Wage: $171,000- $213,000 AnnuallyWhat is in it for you?A competitive salary and innovative, game-changing workFlexible work scheduleFor full-time employees, we offer: Employer subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance; Equity, 401k retirement savings plan + 12 Paid holidays and generous vacation + sick timeQuantinuum is a team of over 450+ people.
