Job Description / Essential Elements: Torrance Unified School DistrictDEAN OF STUDENTSADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS1. Has direct responsibility to the school principal or designee for performance of delegated functions.2. Works through building administrator and with appropriate District Office administrator toimplement District and school site disciplinary policies. The Dean of Students promotes goodattendance rates and ensures safety and the prevention of campus violence.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Implementation and enforcement of Student Discipline Policy.2. Handle student disciplinary referrals from classroom or campus.3. Confer with parents on matters of student behavior and the implementation of effective programsrelated to student discipline and attendance.4. May contact and coordinate with social service agencies, child protective services, private counselingcenters and others regarding preventive or remedial services for students. 5. Provide information about community resources to students with special needs or problems.6. Use data to identify at risk students for behavior and academic monitoring.7. Attend professional development in relation to at-risk students and student achievement. 8. Supervision of students before, during and after school, including lunch periods. 9. Assist in the coordination of school detention, in-school suspension and Saturday School whenappropriate. 10. Assist students in making the transition from one school level to another and from one program toanother.11. Monitor student progress. 12. Assist students in resolving individual problems and conflicts with other students or adults.13. Consult with members of the administrative and teaching staff regarding student discipline and orattendance issues to identify intervention strategies.14. Attend Student Study Team meetings and other related meetings as needed. Assist the building administrator with professional development as it relates to student discipline and safety for the whole staff. Make recommendations concerning the revision and updating of student rules, regulations and handbooks. 17. Other duties as requiredPHYSICAL DEMANDS1. Sitting, standing or walking for extended periods.2. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, and standard office equipment.3. Occasional carrying, pushing, pulling or lifting light to moderate weights up to 50 lbs. 4. Occasional kneeling, crouching, or stooping, bending at the waist or kneeling.6.
