POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES The Senior Fire Protection Designer will be reporting to the Senior Fire Protection Project Manager and will be responsible for managing other fire protection designers. The role includes providing design of fire protection systems, including performing hydraulic calculations and producing construction documents. The Senior Fire Protection Designer will be able to provide design assistance in all aspects of fire protection systems design and engineering in accordance with established policies, standards, and procedures. This individual will also understand the building/fire codes and standards to be able to produce specifications and assist in studies on a variety of fire protection related applications. Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following: Supervise and assist other fire protection designers with the tasks outlined below. Prepare fire protection systems layout and detailed drawings to produce a complete set of construction drawings in accordance with applicable codes and standards. Assist in the preparation of contract specifications. Perform accurate design calculations including hydraulic calculations. Coordinate work with both internal and external stakeholders, providing technical support and work direction as needed. Review of fire protection contractor shop drawings. Perform field surveys and construction administration duties. Provide technical information and assistance to project engineer and/or project manager. Make recommendations as to the feasibility of certain systems or equipment and evaluate products for their applications. Coordinate system design with other disciplines, consultants, and utilities. Perform site surveys and site observations. Perform hydrant flow tests. Respond to RFI's with the approval of the Project Manager. Additional duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS Required: NICET Certified Level III in Water-Based Systems Layout. Minimum of Five years of design experience. Highly motivated, professional demeanor with a "can do" attitude. Team-oriented and strong work ethic. Proficient and accurate data entry skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and shift focus if needed to assist other staff. Maintain a well-organized system to account for various information processed. Excellent written and oral communication. Strong attention to detail. Effective at researching and writing reports/studies. Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Structural Engineering construction practices. Revit or HydraCAD for Revit experience. Experience in a leadership or supervisory role. Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel. Preferred: Associate degree in Drafting and Design. NICET Certified Level IV in Water-Based Systems Layout. NICET Certified in Fire Alarm Systems and/or Special Hazards Suppression Systems. SpecLink, HydraCAD/HydraCALC and AutoSPRINK. Working Conditions: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typica of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.
