Position SummaryResponsible for assisting and tutoring students in their Science, Engineering, and/or Math (SEM) academic course work.

Provide drop-in and appointment tutoring for individuals and groups, focusing on helping them develop the skills and strategies necessary to be a successful math student.

Support the functions of the SEM Tutoring Center by taking on a leadership role(s) managing one or more tutoring center functions.

These positions report to the Program Director of the Business Education Center (BEC) & Science, Engineering & Math (SEM) Tutoring Center.

Essential Functions

Tutoring (5 hours per week):Tutor all, or most, courses taught at TCC in a specialization area: Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Biology, and/or Chemistry Tutor students one-on-one and in groups in study areas, computer areas or in classrooms. Address student issues or refer the student to appropriate department for assistance. Provide information to students regarding college policies and procedures. Participate in all tutor trainings (pre-quarter and weekly). Visit classes and provide short orientations about the tutoring program(s).

Perform Drop-in Tutoring management

Organizing drop-in queue and tutors (help direct tutors to appropriate student) Give informal feedback to tutors (give immediate feedback when possible) Make sure policies are being followed consistently Open or close the center

Perform related duties as assigned.Leadership Role (4-5 additional hours per week):Help with New Tutor Training quarterly Mentor New Tutors Weekly Tutor Discussion Group participation and/or leading Take care of subject specific needs in area of specialization (textbooks, software, models, handouts, reach out to faculty, etc.) Perform observations of newer tutorsAdditional Leadership Roles(number of additional hours depends on roles):New Quarter preparations (organize classroom visits, prepare for new tutor training, post schedules, post flyers, etc.) Track ITTPC certification for all SEM Tutors, communicate progress, and organize certificates Coordinate Tutor Discussion Groups and Curriculum for all SEM and BEC Tutor Groups Collect, compile and make reports with Tutoring Data (must be excel proficient) Manage handouts for SEM Subjects Represent SEM Center as an eTutor for the Consortium

Qualifications

Minimum QualificationsHigh School graduation or equivalent, or TCC student. GPA of 3.0 or higher in related courses to be tutored

Ability to tutor all, or most, courses taught at TCC in a specialization area: Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Biology, and/or Chemistry Previous work experience in a Tutoring Center.

Preferred QualificationsCumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Current TCC student or TCC graduate. Previous work experience in one of TCC's Tutoring Centers. Previous leadership experience. Commitment to multiple quarters is preferred.

Conditions of EmploymentSuccessful completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment. Commitment of a minimum of 5 hours per week (Tutoring - Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 1). Commitment of 10-17 hours per week (Program Support Supervisor 1).

Excellent customer service skills; including establishing, building and maintaining internal/external customer satisfaction. An appreciation of diversity and the benefits of a commitment to cultural awareness and sensitivity in the workplace. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students. Skill in building and maintaining internal/external customer satisfaction. Ability to follow directions and meet the demands of the department. Organizational and study skills.

Terms of EmploymentThese non-permanent hourly positions are bound by the WAC 357-04-045 provisions above and are scheduled to work up to 17 hours per week. The salary is $19.98-$20.94

per hour. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet department needs. TCC Part-time hourly and student employees including work study students, will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Hourly non-student employees may be applicable for comprehensive health care benefits package for you and your dependents includes medical, dental and vision insurance.
