Job Summary

Auburn University's Office of Communications and Marketing is seeking a student employee to provide support for the ongoing collection, production and distribution of content for the university's main social media platforms. The student employee will work at the direction of the office's Director of Communications Services and the Communications Editor III who manages Auburn's main social media accounts.

The employee will provide assistance not only with content collection but also idea generation and will serve, when needed, in a backup role for postings under the supervision of a manager. Materials produced will reflect the stories that align with Auburn's strategic plan and brand positioning, to include a focus on academics, the Auburn student experience and our alumni. The timing for this employment covers the summer semester.

The job requires a highly motivated, creative individual who is committed to a strategic, careful approach to social media marketing. This job will include some on-campus work. Hours are flexible and many functions could be performed remotely.

Essential Functions

Research and write news notices and articles for various pages of the

www.auburn.edu

website

Assist with communications and marketing projects/assignments that arise

Accompany OCM staff to meetings with various campus communicators to learn internal operations practices and help OCM staff prepare for meetings, as needed

Research background information for OCM articles

Monitor Auburn University media coverage and input media hits into OCM's content management system

Help OCM staffers manage media reports/data on a weekly and monthly basis

Assist in writing articles and news briefs for other campus units as an OCM liaison

Assist OCM in covering/staffing events on campus as needed

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled student at Auburn University

Expectations:

Interest in Communications and Marketing

Strong writing and editing experience

The ability to collaborate and work as part of a team

The ability to act and speak with discretion, and to be trusted to handle sensitive materials and documents

Possess strong interpersonal and communications skills

Dependability, multi-tasking, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment are imperative

The ability to work in an office setting at a computer, standing or sitting, for several hours a day

Preferred Qualifications

Past experience with running a professional social media account for an organization, business or school.

Pay Rate

$13.00/hour
