Description

The College of the Holy Cross seeks a double bass instructor to join the Music Department's roster of instrumental and vocal instructors. Lesson instructors are at-will employees and are compensated $1000/semester per student for 10 one-hour lessons and $500/semester per student for 10 one-half-hour lessons. For the Fall of 2024, we anticipate one to three students for 10 hour-long lessons. The instructor will be compensated for a minimum of three students for the first semester. The position is in-person.

The successful applicant will be required to complete Holy Cross's Boundary Training for lesson instructors.

The position reports to the Chair of the music department.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Teach individual double bass lessons, as needed, to music majors and non-majors.Based on the successful candidate's qualification, possible additional ad hoc duties, for which the lesson instructor would receive additional compensation, might include participating in auditions, juries, and coachings.

Requirements:

Minimum QualificationsMaster's Degree in Music Performance (required)Experience teaching double bass to college-age studentsExperience in professional performance activitiesWillingness to teach all levels of students from beginning to advancedWillingness to work with ensemble directors in order to help support student participation in ensembles.Evidence of being capable of creating an inspiring and productive teaching environmentWillingness and ability to accommodate students' needs of individual learning stylesAbility to teach students who enroll in Music 331/332 or 431/432 for a full credit and a letter grade, in coordination with the Chair of the DepartmentCommitment to diversity and inclusion in repertory, for example, music composed by women, historically and geographically underrepresented identity groups, and unfamiliar musics (old and new)Commitment to inclusive excellence in teachingPreferred Qualifications
