Pay Range Information

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Participates in the daily operation and projects of the Special Collections Department and the Center for American War Letters Archives. Job duties include but are not limited to: Accession incoming materials, file deposited material in the appropriate collection, assist with displays and exhibits, page and re-shelve materials. Also assist with monitoring the Reading Rooms and patron requests. Assist in training and provide guidance to student workers. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Special Collections and the Center for American War Letters Archives:

Accession, arrange, and describe archival records - prioritizing large collections - in accordance with accepted archival standards. Identify and coordinate preservation and reformatting needs. Create and publish finding aids in

ArchivesSpace.

Assist in the appraisal of materials during pre-transfer, accessioning, and processing. Assist with the intake of new collections by surveying and packing donations, as needed.

Assist with the curation of displays and exhibits in Special Collections and the Center for American War Letters Archives. Assist in the maintenance of the permanent Special Collections displays throughout the library.

Page and re-shelve books and other materials as needed. File deposited materials in the Special Collections and the Center for American War Letters Archives.

Reading Rooms:

Assist researchers using Special Collections and the Center for American War Letters Archives materials and help monitor the Reading Rooms.

Help ensure that researchers comply with Reading Room rules and safeguard library materials.

Assist with patron duplication and reference requests.

Miscellaneous Duties:

Assist with the mending of library materials and the construction of special containers for Special Collections & Archives materials.

Assist in training and provide guidance to student workers.

Other duties as assigned, including providing tours for theCalifornia's Gold Exhibit..

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 12 months of library experience, two years of college education or equivalent combination of experience/education.

Experience using computers, web applications, email, and the Internet.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to work autonomously without direct supervision.

Ability to prioritize a fluctuating workload and carry out duties to meet deadlines with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail; excellent organizational skills.

Excellent professional written, verbal, and communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills working with a diverse group of individuals at several different organizational levels; ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Desired Qualifications

Supervisory experience working with students.
