What You Will Do:

The Bilingual (Spanish/English) Learning Experience Designer is a vital contributor to the development, refinement, and implementation of curricula across various educational programs. Junior Designer combines expertise in curriculum development and instructional design to create engaging and effective learning environments. While this role maintains primary responsibility to the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Competency-Based (CB) program, it is adaptable to a broad range of educational projects, particularly those that require Spanish language translation and bilingual Learning Experience Design skills. The designer's bilingual skills enhance accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that Spanish-speaking learners receive support through translated curriculum materials, curated Spanish language resources, and equitable assessments. A strong understanding of translanguaging is essential, as it enables the designer to appreciate how learners utilize their linguistic resources to access knowledge and demonstrate competencies in diverse educational settings.

This is a fully remote position with some travel to the Chicago campus throughout the academic year (2-3 times per year). This position is grant-funded through July 1, 2025.

Essential Responsibilities

Curriculum Development:Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and refine curriculum, courses, modules, and assessments, ensuring alignment with the learning objectives of each program's Learning Journeys, particularly as related to Spanish language curriculum design.

Develop and adapt content and instructional materials to support learners in competency-based education program, ensuring broad accessibility within fully asynchronous, learner driven, CB modalities.Ensure that curriculum materials inclusively reflect diverse perspectives, experiences, and cultural backgrounds, catering to a global learner demographic, particularly those that are multilingual (i.e., Spanish and English).Learning Design:Design and develop engaging learning experiences, instructional materials, and multimedia resources that enhance various educational programs, in the Spanish language, particularly the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Competency-Based program.Utilize instructional design principles, pedagogical strategies, and technology tools to create interactive and meaningful learning activities for learners across multiple educational settings and modalities, ensuring content is accessible and engaging for all students. Strategies and tools must be appropriate for Spanish language speakers/learners.Assessment and Evaluation:Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to develop and refine assessment tools and procedures (in Spanish and English) that support educational objectives across various programs.Design formative and summative assessments (in Spanish and English) to measure student learning outcomes and inform instructional decision-making in diverse educational contexts.Review and evaluate course materials to ensure quality and alignment with instructional goals.Conduct usability testing and gather feedback to continuously improve learning experiences.Translation of Curricular Materials:Provide Spanish language translation for curricular updates, enhancing accessibility and inclusivity across various educational programs, including the ECE program.Support comprehensive Spanish language translation needs for a range of educational initiatives, with a specific focus on the ECE CB program.Collaboration and Communication:Foster partnerships with relevant departments such as the ECE Institute, and ECE CB team in the Undergraduate College, to ensure seamless curriculum development across educational programs.Collaborate with colleagues, stakeholders, and experts to share resources, exchange ideas, and stay informed about emerging trends and research in bilingual (Spanish/English) curriculum development and delivery in diverse educational settings.Compliance and Documentation:Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and program guidelines across various educational settings, including those specific to early childhood education and bilingual programming.Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports related to curriculum development, learning design, professional development, and assessment across multiple programs.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree preferred in Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design, Bilingual Education, or another related field3+ years of demonstrated Spanish language translation proficiency (translating from English to Spanish), with excellent oral and written communication skills in both languages.1-3 years of experience with curriculum development, ideally with some exposure to competency-based curriculum.1-3 years of familiarity with developing and applying varied assessment techniques (formative and summative) and rubric alignment.1-3 years of familiarity with web development basics (HTML, CSS) and multimedia creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Articulate 360).1-3 years of basic knowledge of curriculum, standards/credentialing in education, with some exposure to early childhood competency-based education preferred.1-3 years of experience working with learning management systems (LMS), with an emphasis on developing and improving curriculum to leverage LMS capabilities.1-3 years of experience in project management related to curriculum development/improvement, ensuring deliverables and timelines are met.1-3 years of experience working collaboratively with curriculum designers, subject matter experts, or technical experts (e.g., translation services) and/or vendors.Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education, with a focus on serving diverse populations and promoting cultural responsiveness.Technology Proficiency:

Familiarity with educational technology tools and platforms used for curriculum development, such as learning management systems (LMS), authoring software, multimedia editing tools, and online collaboration platforms.Curriculum Design Expertise:

In-depth knowledge and experience in curriculum design principles, including understanding learning objectives, sequencing of content, assessment methods, and alignment with educational standards.
