Job Description

The Director of Public Relations will work closely with the executive team and various business functions to develop and implement strategic communication plans that enhance Trupanion’s public image and promote its mission and services. This role will be pivotal in shaping the company’s voice, managing media relations, and driving public awareness initiatives. The Director of Public Relations will also oversee crisis communication, ensuring the company’s reputation remains strong and positive.

You will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 3 days a week.What You Will DoDevelop and execute comprehensive public relations strategies that align with Trupanion’s goals and objectives.Manage media relations, including writing and distributing press releases, pitching stories to media, and responding to media inquiries.Foster and maintain relationships with key media contacts, industry influencers, and community partners.Collaborate across various platforms to amplify messaging, including that in press releases, blog posts, social media, and the company website.Coordinate and lead PR events, including press conferences, product launches, and community outreach programs.Monitor and analyze media coverage and PR campaign performance, providing regular reports to senior leadership.Manage crisis communication efforts, developing and implementing plans to address potential issues and mitigate risks.Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure cohesive messaging across all channels.Act as a company spokesperson when needed, representing Trupanion at events and in media interviews.Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in public relations, applying this knowledge to improve Trupanion’s PR efforts.Experience You HaveBachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field. Animal health experience a plus.Proven experience in a senior public relations role, with at least 7 years experience.Strong media relations skills with a robust network of media contacts.Demonstrated success in developing and executing PR campaigns that achieve measurable results.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.Experience managing crisis communication and developing strategies to protect and enhance company reputation.Proficient in using PR software and tools for media monitoring and analytics.Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Creative thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a keen eye for detail.What You’ll BringStrategic thinking and the ability to align PR activities with business goals.Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, media landscape, and best practices in public relations.Passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of how to craft and deliver impactful messages.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with media, influencers, and key stakeholders.Flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to embrace change and take on new challenges.Commitment to Trupanion’s mission and values, with a genuine love for pets.CompensationThe pay range for this position is $150,000 – $160,000 per year, on a full-time schedule. Along with the base salary, Trupanion employees may be eligible for monthly bonuses.We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion’s success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members.
