Learn more about the general tasks related to this opportunity below, as well as required skills.The Director of Communications reports to the Vice President of Communications and works closely with CRES’ communications consultants and CRES’ government relations, external relations and policy teams. The Director has an intensive writing portfolio, while overseeing all communications content creation, and ensures content flows efficiently throughout the organization and to external audiences. In addition, this position manages relationships with professional communicators on Capitol Hill and with allied organizations in DC and beyond the Beltway.Responsibilities:Direct the team’s content creation and distribution strategies, serving as the lead writerDraft high-level content such as op-eds, executive remarks and talking points, issue messaging, as well as materials such as the annual report, polling decks and briefing documentsOversee the creation of communications materials such as press releases, newsletters, blogs, videos, social media posts and website updatesOversee the creation of materials that support the CRES brandDirect the Capitol Hill Communicators Program, serving as the primary contact to build and maintain strong relationships to promote CRES messaging on Capitol Hill and across states and districtsManage the Cool Conservative Communicators Collaborating on Climate Change with CRES (C6WC) events and programmingServe as the primary contact for communications programs at Hill-focused organizations such as the Conservative Climate Caucus, the Conservative Climate Foundation, the Climate Solutions Caucus, the Western Caucus and the Western Caucus FoundationImplement communications strategies and tactics to support CRES’ mission and goalsEngage in daily communications strategies on key legislative issuesSupport communications functions at CRES and CRES-sponsored eventsManage external communications consultants to ensure deliverables meet expectationsOversee distribution list management, working closely with other departments to ensure growth and accuracyProvide input to the Vice President of Communications for the development of CRES’ communications workplan, including goal setting and tracking metricsSupport External Relations team with information needed for grant applications and reportsEnsure CRES brand and style guidelines are adhered to for all external contentPerforms other duties as assignedRequired Education, Experience and Skills:Six to eight years of experience including time as a communications director, press secretary or similar role on Capitol Hill, at a high-profile government agency or for a high-profile public figure or corporationAt least a four-year college degree in a relevant field of studyStrong writing and editing skills, particularly for news outlet publicationsDemonstrated track record of developing advocacy messaging and talking points on newsworthy topics from a conservative point of viewIncredible attention to detail and process-management skills – must have a proven record of accomplishment of shepherding projects from conception to successful executionExperience working directly with principal-level officials for public events and media interviewsProfessional relationships with senior policy and communications staff on Capitol HillAbility to execute a departmental strategic plan that aligns with the organization's mission and goalsWorking knowledge of climate and energy issuesAbility to work collaboratively and efficiently; ability to successfully juggle multiple prioritiesProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant softwareAbility to travel to out-of-state conferencesPersonal / Professional Attributes:Is organized, diligent and responsibleCan work collaboratively in a self-directed mannerFearlessly asks questions to understand assignments betterCan manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlinesIs excited to contribute to a high-growth, fast-paced organizationIs flexible and able to handle change and unexpected challengesCompetitive Benefits:Excellent health, vision, dental and prescription drug insurancePaid short-and-long-term insuranceFlexible Spending AccountGenerous Paid Time Off (PTO)Retirement plan matchTransportation benefitCell phone reimbursementEqual Opportunity Employer Statement:CRES is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
