Amazon is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the World Wide Grocery Stores (WWGS) Retail Growth and Development org as the Sr. Manager of Design Standards for retail stores. This job contributes to Amazon’s success by leading the creation and maintenance of Design Guidelines and Standards for the Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go, and Whole Foods Market stores. As a leader in WWGS, you will be responsible for managing the team who develops and maintains the guidelines and standards required to design new and remodel stores, including (but not limited to) Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical (Power and Lighting) and Plumbing, Refrigeration, Low Voltage, Fire Protection, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Sustainability.

Key job responsibilities

In this role you will:

Lead a high performance team of diverse professionals representing a variety of technical disciplines.

Manage the development and communication of design standards across the Worldwide Grocery Stores portfolio of brands.

Work closely with stakeholders in partner teams including Construction, Real Estate, Sourcing and Procurement, Food Safety, Workplace Safety, Tech, Operations and Change Management to understand opportunities for design improvement.

Evolve the grocery customer experience through high quality designs in Amazon physical stores.

A day in the life

You will manage a team of subject matter experts tasked with creating design guidance and educating internal and external peers, while solving challenges of all levels of complexity, where the problem, opportunity, and strategy may not be defined. Your expertise and high judgment will evolve the structure and mechanisms to meet long-term business goals across multiple brands in the grocery physical stores organization. Through partnerships and cross-functional stakeholder collaboration, you will work independently to create and implement a vision for standardizing design and development decisions that deliver consistent, scalable and innovative experiences for our customers and associates.

About the team

WWRGD supports the Worldwide Grocery Stores businesses. We are responsible for bringing physical retail experiences to our customer in the grocery and convenience sector (Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go). The Design Standards Team is responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating “source of truth” documentation for WWRGD's current and future plan of record store designs, as well as approved trade-up/trade-down options and geographic variations. Standards documentation covers all fixed physical aspects of the store, ranging from architectural details to MEPR equipment and supports organizational goals by developing and maintaining tools that will enable efficient and accurate rollout at scale.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or similar relevant discipline

10+ years of experience in commercial buildings, demonstrating progressive responsibility and growth within the Architecture/Engineering/Construction space

3+ years of people management experience

Ability to work independently, multitask, manage time efficiently and to collaborate remotely across geographies and platforms

Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements

Strong oral and written leadership and technical communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in design of grocery and/or other retail

Professional Architecture or Engineering License

Knowledge of current sustainability trends and practices preferred

Revit experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $144,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $238,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
