Summary

A 3D Designer utilizes 3D design tools, i.e. AutoCAD 3D, Revit, etc. to create detailed 3D designs and 2D extraction packages. The Designer has knowledge in the capture and creation of point clouds and utilizes them within the design process as an aid for model creation as well as initial concept overlay all the way to as-built verification. The Designer requires knowledge in navigating and creating collaborative model document repositories. The Designer must be able to work with a team which is gaining 3D design experience and be able to aid as required. Staying up to date on the latest 3D technologies is required. #LI-AH1

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of a Senior Designer, the designer (Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural) prepares preliminary sketches and/or schematic diagrams/wiring diagrams/block diagrams, cable & conduit schedules/flow diagrams/equipment layouts/foundation details/plan and profiles/structural details/P&IDs/bill of materials, etc. specific to their design discipline

Responsible for drawings of components, systems and structures which are done in collaboration with other designers and CADD Operators to develop final design and construction packages

Field verification through site inspections may be required to confirm existing design information reflects actual field conditions,

Requires skills in a design discipline and knowledge of construction techniques

Utilize the Document Management System to perform the design work

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience in a design discipline to prepare and review design drawings

Familiarity with generally accepted design & drafting practices.

Use of Computer Aided Design & Drafting software is preferred.

Ability to clearly communicate design details

Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Ability to analyze technical data of low to medium complexity.

Experience with 3D CADD products is preferred

Education, Experience and Certifications

Associate Degree

Minimum 2 years Design and Drafting experience to prepare engineering drawings in the respective disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical and Civil/Structural)

Physical Requirements

Approximately 10% - 15% travel primarily within NY State. As required, on occasion there may be travel out of NY State for inspections of equipment or for training purposes.

Potential for exposure to cold, heat, noise, dust, chemicals, solvents and/or any other substances typically found at a Generation or Transmission facility. Exposure is minimized through proper planning and support from site personnel.

Lift 50lbs to install papers in the plotters

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $79,110 - $115,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
