A global automotive company is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Design Engineer to join their dynamic engineering team. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and project management skills to drive the design and development of innovative products. The ideal candidate will be proficient in CATIA V5 and V6, with a strong ability to conduct design feasibility studies, perform complex cost and strength calculations, and manage prototyping through to manufacturing.Candidates with a mechanical engineering and design background with familiarity of basics of electronic components are encouraged to apply.Responsibilities:Utilize CATIA V5 and V6 for drawing creation, advanced surfacing, sheet metal design, CAE, and draft analysisConduct design feasibility studies to assess manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and reliability of new designs.Perform detailed cost analysis and strength calculations to ensure designs meet financial and performance criteria.Schedule and coordinate activities involved in prototyping, fabricating, and manufacturing of assigned systems.Work closely with suppliers to ensure that parts and services are requested in line with project requirements.Evaluate technical proposals from external partners and provide comprehensive feedback and approval.Proficient in technical writing to create clear and detailed technical reports and documentation.Report research findings and test results in various technical formats, ensuring all data is accurately conveyed and actionable.Make informed technical decisions under moderate supervision, taking responsibility for the outcomes of these decisions.Required Skillset:Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a design engineering role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.Proficiency in CATIA V5 and V6, specifically in drawing creation, advanced surfacing, sheet metal, CAE, and draft analysis.Familiarity in core skills relating to CATIA experience which may include part design, drawing creation and release, and understanding FEA/CAE.Familiarity in electrical component integration (This can include mounting and thermal, water, and electrical protection).Familiarity in plastic and sheet metal brackets design (This can include draft analysis, sheet metal design, and design for manufacturing).Excellent skills in technical writing and documentation.Strong skillset and experience in office tools, including MS Teams, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, OneNote, etc.Experience in design feasibility, cost analysis, and strength calculations.Proven ability to manage projects from prototyping through to manufacturing.Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.Previous experience effectively communicating with external suppliers.Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.Valid Drivers LicenseBonus Skillset:Previous experience in an R&D environment.Duration: 12 monthsLocation: Raymond, OH (Hybrid)Type: Contract
