Role Overview

Reporting to the Director of Handbag Design, the Design Assistant, Handbags will be responsible for supporting the Accessories Design teams in the seasonal design development process, from concept to delivery.

Essential Duties

Assists and takes direction from Designer(s) and Senior Designer(s) for preliminary concept design, pull fabrics, assemble presentation boards for meetings, prepare mock-ups, color-ups, and inspirational photos based on given prompts.

Responsible for CAD across all main categories.

Support Designer(s) in creating and updating Adobe Illustrator sketches; assist in preparation and updating of design boards and linesheets.

Sample management; organize, track, and store all samples. Assist in setting up and breaking down samples for meetings.

Assist with market research, including competitive analysis on contemporary styles in the marketplace, creative ideas and providing essential design input into relevant collections under direction of senior Design team.

Maintain tidiness and organization of the design room, as well as the department’s digital drive.

Assists Design team with tech packs and send outs (tracking, sending, receiving, etc.)

Work closely with the Product Development team to ensure protos and salesman samples are being cut and sewn correctly and on time.

Prerequisite Knowledge, Skills, & Education

1-2 years of fashion design experience required.

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Fashion Design preferred.

Must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel.

Experience creating print repeats preferred.

Google Drive knowledge a plus.

Basic understanding of technical packages.

Passion and eye for design.

Strong organization skills and attention to detail.

Ability to clearly articulate a point of view.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure, must be able to multi-task, prioritize work.

Ability to adapt to new situations quickly.

Ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Standing and sitting for extended periods of time.

Lifting up to 25 pounds in a safe and prudent manner.

Ability to read, write, and understand English.
