Role Summary

The SDV Hub team is responsible for architecting, designing, and implementing key platforms and services for CARIAD’s next generation Software Defined Vehicle Operating System (SDV-OS). The Distinguished Software Engineer, System UI and Application Frameworks position is an engineering lead role, focusing on building scalable System UIs and core automotive applications. This Distinguished Software Engineer will build a team to drive and support System UI and Applications methodologies across the software group. The aim of this System UI and Application Frameworks team is to support the goal that vehicle software in production consumes resources within the available bounds across products, while ensuring best-in-class user experience. The role is part of CARIAD’s senior technical team and involves interfacing with multiple stakeholders of VW Group’s technical teams.

Role Responsibilities

Define best development practices for System UI and Application development 50%

Develop a set of processes and methodologies to ensure that the System UI and application development scales across several brands and models.Collaborate with other technical leads and stakeholders to define system-level requirements and interfaces.Work closely with UX and brand developers to establish common best practices.Conduct system-critical design reviews with the teams, providing valuable insights and guidance.Provide technical leadership and mentorship, fostering a high-performing and innovative engineering team, attract extraordinary talent.

Develop fully functional Proofs of Concepts 50%Create high-performance, scalable, and safe software systems, leveraging your extensive experience and knowledge of emerging technologies and best practices in developing cutting-edge embedded systems.Guide the teams in designing system-relevant software concepts, efficient data structures to support modern multi-core hardware, design patterns, and more.Proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with product development and delivery.

Years of Experience

15+ years of experience in high-performance software design across embedded systems.10+ years of experience with different operating systems, specifically Android internals and application development15+ years of professional experience in delivering complex software products to the end customer.10+ years of experience as a tech lead, significantly contributing to overarching system design and SW architecture mattersRequired Education

BS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.Desired Education

Compensation

Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, credentials or certifications, industry-based experience, qualification and training.

In the city of Mountain View, California, the salary range for this position is $154,600 - $286,900
