Job Purpose and Organizational Context

UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP's policy work carried out at HQ, Regional and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. In this context, UNDP invests in the Global Policy Network (GPN), a network of field-based and global technical expertise across a wide range of knowledge domains and in support of the signature solutions and organizational capabilities envisioned in the Strategic Plan.

Within the GPN, the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) has the responsibility for developing all relevant policy and guidance to support the results of UNDP's Strategic Plan. BPPS's staff provides technical advice to Country Offices, advocates for UNDP corporate messages, represents UNDP at multi-stakeholder fora including public-private dialogues, government, and civil society dialogues, and engages in UN inter-agency coordination in specific thematic areas. BPPS works closely with UNDP's Crisis Bureau (CB) to support emergency and crisis response. BPPS ensures that issues of risk are fully integrated into UNDP's development programmes. BPPS assists UNDP and partners to achieve higher quality development results through an integrated approach that links results-based management and performance monitoring with more effective and new ways of working. BPPS supports UNDP and partners to be more innovative, knowledge and data driven including in its programme support efforts.

BPPS's Hubs on Nature, Climate, Energy and Waste, with the support of the Vertical Fund Programme Support, Oversight and Compliance Unit, works with governments, civil society, and private sector partners to integrate nature, climate, energy and waste related concerns into national and sector planning and inclusive growth policies, support country obligations under Multilateral Environmental Agreements, and oversee the implementation of the UN's largest portfolio of in-country programming on nature, climate change, energy and waste.

The UNDP Climate Hub is the arrowhead of UNDP's commitment to the "Climate Promise" that aims to support programming countries in designing and implementing pledges under the Paris Agreement, including ambitious National Determined Contributions, with climate change mitigation and adaptation interventions fully embedded in the national development planning and budgetary processes. The Climate Hub builds on UNDP's existing portfolio of over US$4 billion in country-level climate action on Climate Change Policies and Strategies, Climate Change Adaptation, Climate Change Mitigation, Climate and Forests, covering over 142 countries, as well as on UNDP's Nature portfolio, UNDP's Sustainable Finance Hub, UNDP's Digital offer and other relevant portfolios on youth, gender, health, climate security among others.

The UNDP Climate Hub is responsible for:Thought leadership on Climate and to be the custodian of UNDP policy positions on Climate;Strategy and vision formulation;Pipeline development in coordination with the other hubs and the Vertical Fund Programme Support, Oversight and Compliance Unit;Provision of integrated policy and programme support to Country Offices;Global engagement, advocacy in collaboration with BERA;Integration across thematic areas;Strategic Partnerships development and resource mobilization;Lead and Support global flagship initiatives and partnerships on Climate;Serve as focal point with relevant UN coordination mechanisms and Conventions (UN Framework Convention on Climate Change);Cross-organization knowledge and learning; andInnovation.UNDP is recruiting a Social Media and Graphic Design Analyst to work with UNDP's Climate Hub communications team, providing support on UNDP Climate Hub social media communications and visibility needs. This role entails working in close coordination with UNDP's Climate Hub communications specialists across the Climate Hub, acting as the main focal point for the Hub's social media channels, and collaborating with the visual communications specialist on fulfilling the team's graphic design needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Social Media and Graphic Design Analyst will provide support on UNDP Climate Hub social media communications and visibility needs. This role entails working in close coordination with UNDP's Climate hub communications specialists across the Climate Hub, acting as the main focal point for the Hub's social media channels, and collaborating with the visual communications specialist on fulfilling the team's graphic design needs.

Act as the main focal point for UNDP Climate Hub's social media channels, working in collaboration with the other communications specialists in the UNDP Climate Hub to promote and increase the outreach of the communications products they develop;Draft, edit and post social media content, ensuring alignment with UNDP Climate Hub's communications strategy and style guidelines;Enhance the online and social media presence of UNDP Climate Hub by scheduling and maintaining a steady pipeline of content;Propose new and innovative social media content for UNDP Climate Hub's channels, based on current trends;Keep track of key international dates and establish a pipeline of topic-specific content, as needed;Manage content on different Trello boards where UNDP Climate Hub has a presence;Create monthly reports of UNDP Climate Hub's social media channels performance, highlighting good practices and results;Create and disseminate graphic design products to promote UNDP's work on a variety of digital multimedia platforms;Create video and other multimedia content when needed, and disseminate it on digital platforms;Lead or support on the design of knowledge products (reports, info briefs, one pagers) in line with UNDP and Climate Hub's branding guidelines;Collaborate with the Intelligence and Innovation pillar on promoting new reports and findings on social media channels;Manage the Flickr account of the UNDP Climate Hub, by uploading new photos on a regular basis, in line with UNDP guidelines;Contribute to the development of digital advocacy campaigns that promote UNDP Climate Hub's vision and strategic priorities to external audiences;Provide creative support during key events for the Climate Hub such as COP, Regional Climate Weeks, UNGA, and other important milestones;Coordinate closely with UNDP's BERA team to ensure linkages with UNDP corporate channels;Deliver trainings on social media best practices for colleagues working in the Climate Hub or at the regional or country levels;Collaborate with communications specialists from the Energy, Nature and Chemical Waste Hubs on setting up best practices for joint social media channels.The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.Institutional Arrangement

The Social Media and Graphic Design Analyst reports directly to the Lead Communications Specialist. S/he will be part of the larger Climate Hub.

Minimum Qualifications

Min. Education requirements

Advanced University degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in International Relations, Environmental Studies, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Information Technology, or other closely related fields; orA first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree) in the above mentioned fields with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university.Min. years of relevant work experience

Minimum 2 (two) years (with master's degree) or 4 (four) years (with bachelor's degree) of experience in a media, digital communications or other fast-paced editorial environment is required.Required skills

Experience and sound understanding and experience of digital communications in international organizations and/or non-profit organizations, particularly on social media.Experienced in drafting and editing engaging content for websites, social media, and other digital platforms.Familiarity with social media suites, tools and software, such as Hootsuite, Buffer, Canva, Mailchimp.Ability to troubleshoot technical issues on digital platforms.Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro.Desired skills

Experience with designing reports would be an asset.Experience with graphic design, including social media assets and infographics.Proven experience with climate or environmental work.Experience and strong understanding of the wider digital and social media landscape, and how it relates to international organizations' interest in global issues and the United Nations.Required Language(s)

Fluency in English is required.Fluency in additional UN languages will be considered an asset.
