As a Senior Engineer, you'll tackle complex challenges in distributed systems, content security, and scalability - all while leveraging the latest AWS technologies. Key job responsibilities

As a member of the team, you will spend your time as a hands-on engineer and a technical leader. You will play a key role in implementing our architecture using a wide range of technologies, programming languages and systems. You will be given the freedom to explore your own ideas with the reward of seeing your code raise the bar for millions of Amazon customers worldwide, including your own family and friends.

You will work with technical leaders to refine technical direction, and then follow through with detailed analysis, designs, and high quality code. You will work on real world problems at a global scale, own end-to-end production systems, and influence the direction of our technology that impacts over 100 million Amazon customers globally. You will get to learn the inner workings of an agile team, what it means to own projects and milestones, and how to get things done at Amazon's scale.

A day in the life

Senior Engineers in the team spend their time focusing on interesting problems like detecting Anonymizers to better protect digital content, building new platform-as-a-service offerings, re-architecting our systems using AWS technologies including EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda, Kinesis, and CloudFront. Senior Engineers directly impact the direction of the team’s architecture, and get to work closely with Senior and Principal engineers. The services we own can scale to handle a million requests per second. we own and build services with security and low latency at its core.

The Play Starts team is at the core of Prime Video's streaming experience. We operate a critical multi-tenant platform that handles customer interactions from the moment the play button is pressed, ensuring optimal, secure, and compliant content delivery to millions of customers worldwide.

Basic Qualifications

5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

Experience with designing and building distributed systems

Familiarity with AWS technologies like EC2, EBS, and S3

Experience programming in Java and Kotlin

Ability to effectively communicate with users, technical teams, and leadership to gather requirements, describe features and designs, and shape product strategy

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
