OverviewThe Internal Communications and Employee Engagement Manager (ICEE Manager) is responsible for developing and executing all internal communications strategies and content deliverables to optimize employee engagement for more than 1,100 employees as well as developing executive communications at ForHealth Consulting at UMass Chan Medical School for the Executive Vice Chancellor (EVC) and Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to the Associate Executive Vice Chancellor, Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff (AEVC/CoS), this position partners with ForHealth Consulting’s executive and operational leaders as well managers within the UMass Chan Office of Communications, Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion Office, and Office of Community and Government Relations to ensure that internal communications plans and content are aligned with organizational priorities and amplified across internal and external channels to reach diverse target audiences.

The manager must have excellent content creation skills and must think strategically and creatively to build strong relationships to lead the implementation, review, and further development of the ForHealth Consulting internal communications and engagement strategy.

This is primarily a remote position, with the need to be on-site in Worcester and Shrewsbury, Massachusetts for key meetings and events.

ResponsibilitiesStrategic Communications and Employee Engagement

•Develop and lead multi-channel internal communications strategy. ensuring that internal communications are aligned with organizational strategy and are timely, accurate, accessible, and effective.

•Excellent track record in communicating vision, mission, and core principles effectively with a diverse and dispersed (remote, hybrid, on-site) workforce

•Demonstrated aptitude for stakeholder engagement and influencing with change management transformational communications strategies.

•Experienced in a wide range of communications – including executive briefings and speeches, digital organizational newsletters, and virtual town hall meeting forums.

•Able to translate technical information (particularly health care policy and operations) in clear terms to a range of internal audiences and stakeholders.

•Create content for multiple channels to reach employees across the organization - including but not limited to intranet, weekly and monthly e-newsletters, email, and other media

•Develop weekly communications forecasting reports

•Manage content development and updates to employee intranet, which is a dynamic organizational tool for strategic monthly internal communication dashboard, to measure the effectiveness of content strategy and multi-channel approach to communications in alignment with organizational priorities

•Manage employee engagement programs, including annual Above and Beyond employee recognition program and ForHealth Consulting Solemates UMass Cancer Walk team.

Executive Communications

•Prepare briefing materials for the EVC’s public/speaking/media events. Provide support for background and talking points for relevant public engagements. Provide event and media support as needed.

•Assemble necessary statistics, case details or other materials and information to be fully briefed; Reach out to senior leadership and program managers to collect and organize data for briefings and drafting talking points.

•Support the EVC and executive leaders in high profile internal and external events by capturing content

Public Affairs/Media Relations

•Partner with UMass Chan Media Relations Manager to develop press releases, respond to press inquiries and advise all public events and appearances with the media.

•Oversee executive leadership participation in public events by partnering with host organization on logistics, site visits, and communications deliverables.

•Lead cross-organization communications for ForHealth Consulting events and editorial calendars, monthly newsletters, and Town Hall forums.

QualificationsREQUIRED EDUCATIONBachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, related fields, or equivalent experience.REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE8-10 years of experience in the communications field, preferably in a health care or multi-faceted human services setting.Detail-oriented and highly organized, with strong ability to successfully multi-task and manage prioritiesStrong oral and written communication skillsCompelling writer who can draft content concisely, express thoughts clearly, and develop ideas in logical sequenceCapacity to exercise sound judgment and to exercise discretion in handling confidential informationCapacity to prioritize items by urgency and risk and work in a timely mannerAbility to present complex information, including data, to a variety of by utilizing a variety of formats (e.g., written and oral communications, visual presentations, etc.)Demonstrated ability coordinating the efforts of diverse groups and advancing a culture of inclusion.High level of self-motivation and accountability, bringing enthusiasm, flexibility, and energy to tasksSeeks out and is comfortable receiving feedback, particularly edits to written communications, and able to continue to progress the deliverable/project with the benefit of constructive criticism.Comfortable and productive working at all levels of the organization – can hold his/her own with senior executives, and builds trusting and productive relationships with peers Interest in health care and human services is required; direct experience in health care and/or human services is preferred.Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; technically savvy utilizing a variety of website and social media platforms.A portfolio of writing and presentation samplesPREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCECommunications professional in health care and/or human services agenciesExperience in health care consulting, marketing, or public relations agency environmentExperience implementing a successful Internal Communication and Employee Engagement strategy
