About this roleThe Photography Lab Technician is responsible for providing setup, operation, and maintenance of the photography lab and the arts studio spaces. Mixes chemicals, stocks and transports materials and equipment, conducts daily cleaning, and controls inventory of supplies and equipment. Maintains and monitors digital lab with knowledge of Photoshop and other Adobe programs to assist students.

What a day of a Photography Lab Technician looks like :(This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary)Sets up, organizes, and maintains lab resources. Properly disposes of used lab debris.

Collaborates with instructors to align lab resources with course curriculum.

Provides consultation and assistance regarding specific matters within area of expertise including lab operational procedures.

Receives materials and equipment from external sources and stage for storage. Stocks materials and equipment in stock keeping areas.

Transports materials and equipment to, from and within storage areas and operating areas.

Plans, administers, and takes physical inventories of equipment or material. May include accounting records associated with inventory.

Performs regularly scheduled, basic maintenance on lab equipment and machinery. Arranges for repair of equipment and machinery. Performs daily cleaning darkroom- chemical trays, sinks, mop floors.

Arranges for major repairs of lab equipment and machinery.

Inspects equipment and machinery for safe operation. Reports any observed problems to supervisor.

Sets up chemicals daily in the photography lab for classes and student use before and after class. Assists students in the darkroom and digital lab during and after class.

Mixes chemicals - d-76, dextol, stopbath, fixer, hypo clear and other alternative chemical processes

Follows established safety practices. Maintains and performs in a safe workplace.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

Associate's degree or two years of college coursework

One year of related experience

Knowledge of:

Adobe Photoshop and other Adobe programs

Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

Skilled in:

Delivering a high level of customer service

Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management

Ability to:

Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for a high level of service

Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

Regular physical attendance required

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds

Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds

Reach and grasp objects

Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl

Stand for extended periods of time

Use of video display terminal

Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills

Identify and distinguish colors and shades of color

Communicate information orally and in writing

Receive and understand information through oral and written communication

Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury

Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level, and other conditions

Work a fluctuating work schedule

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $17.00 hourly; however, the offer may vary based on the candidate's education and experience.
