JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State Intern Pipeline Links to Navy Engineering (a.k.a. PIPELINE) Program is seeking a student intern to fill a marketing communications position to help support the promotion of New Research Opportunities, Current Faculty Collaborators, and Engineering Student Interns. This is a paid position and the student intern will be asked to work approximately 10-15 hours per week. The student will work primarily remotely and be expected to join Zoom meetings with the PIPELINE team and work in the Microsoft Office 365 Teams environment. Occasionally, the student will be required to meet in-person with students and faculty at the University Park campus.

The intern's primary responsibilities will include: writing, editing, and curating content for a variety of materials, including news releases, publications, social media, honors and awards, and a website. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, working to plan social media content, scheduling social media posts, designing/creating promotional materials, and executing communication plans. Additionally, the intern will be expected to meet weekly and provide creative content and design guidance for a team of undergraduate engineering students tasked with creating PIPELINE awards through the Penn State Learning Factory.

The ideal candidate should have experience writing for different purposes and audiences (such as news, business, creative) and possess excellent writing and editing skills. In addition, an interest in marketing communications, social media, and advertising is desired. Proficiency working in Microsoft Office 365 software applications is required. Other skills and interests, such as experience working with graphics, photography, and video are welcomed, but not required.

The intern must demonstrate excellent attention to detail and time management skills, be organized, and self-directed to work remotely. The internship is open to students majoring in advertising/PR, communications, English, marketing, or related fields.

This paid internship is for fall 2024 and spring 2025 with potential to continue into summer 2025. To be considered, applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, and links to three samples of writing/communications and/or other creative projects. Sample Work Activities:

Create marketing and/or promotional communications that may include print, electronic, social media, new/emerging media, and other collateral that is in accordance with the approved strategic marketing plan and objectives

Contribute to content for fact sheets, brochures, articles, newsletters, and other internal or external communications

Execute internal and external communications campaigns through multi-channel dissemination

Strengthen brand through content creation, preparation, and dissemination

Edit and proofread publications, including website, advertisements, articles, brochures, etc.

Prepare creative briefs for concept development and creative expression

Assist in delivering presentations to internal and external clients

Ensure brand guidelines and standards are met

Assist with the planning and implementation of events

Assist in the planning of marketing and/or communications strategy

May monitor news and media presence

May participate in the design and/or editing of digital content, graphics, animation, photography, illustrations, and other multimedia visualization and imaging products

May design and develop content style and layout
