Description

As a Visual Merchandising Designer, you will be responsible for creating and illustrating visually captivating displays and environments within retail spaces to attract customers, engage their interest, and influence their buying decisions. This is achieved through strategically designed displays, product placement, and graphics using 3D and 2D software. Visual Merchandising Designers collaborate internally with Sales, Project Management, Production Designers, and Structural Designers, as well as externally with clients and agencies, to align display concepts with marketing strategies, retailer requirements, and seasonal campaigns.

JOB FUNCTION/PURPOSE

The essential functions of a Visual Merchandising Designer focus on creating compelling and effective visual displays within retail environments.

• Applying advanced design principles such as balance, hierarchy, and visual storytelling, along with incorporating various design elements like textures, patterns, and gradients, to create compelling and visually appealing displays

• Creating 3D models and renderings of displays to provide clients and stakeholders with a realistic preview, integrating 3D elements seamlessly into physical store layouts for a more immersive experience, and collaborating with production teams to ensure the feasibility of 3D designs during fabrication.

• Selecting and sourcing materials that align with the display concept and brand image, exploring innovative textures for tactile elements, and balancing aesthetics with practical considerations like durability and cost.

• Conducting in-depth consumer research to identify target audience preferences and behaviors, using these insights to tailor display designs, and analyzing customer feedback on previous displays to inform future design decisions.

• Taking a lead role in managing display projects from concept to execution, establishing timelines, milestones, and deliverables, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution.

• Staying up to date with the latest retail trends, visual merchandising techniques, and display innovations, incorporating emerging trends and technologies into designs, and identifying opportunities for the brand to stand out through innovative displays

• Addressing client feedback to refine design direction, building strong client relationships through professionalism and understanding their needs, and confidently presenting design concepts with visual aids and persuasive communication

• Integrating sustainable design practices into display concepts by utilizing recycled or environmentally friendly materials when feasible, and educating clients and team members about the benefits of these practices

• Collaborating closely with retailers' visual merchandising guides to align display designs with the store layout and theme, ensuring displays enhance product visibility and drive sales, and coordinating with visual merchandisers to maintain a cohesive in-store experience

• Curating a library of high-quality visual content, such as stock photography, illustrations, and graphics, integrating this content into displays to add depth and context, and collaborating with production and graphic designers to create custom visuals for specific campaigns

Analyzing data on display performance, such as foot traffic and sales uplift, using insights to optimize future strategies and improve ROI, and preparing reports and presentations to communicate the impact of displays on key performance indicators

Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Visual Merchandising, Exhibit Design, or equivalent experience required.

• Proficiency in 3D Studio Max (3-5 years), Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) is essential

• CAD experience (ArtiosCAD or equivalent) is a plus.

• Experience in the corrugated industry, including displays, graphics, and point-of-purchase (POP) materials, is advantageous.

• Familiarity with printing processes, print dies, lithography, and corrugated production conversion processes is a plus.

• Robust portfolio reflecting outstanding design capabilities.

• Valid Driver's License with DMV evidence of good driving record.

• Work environment includes front-office and manufacturing. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
