THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL
Sciens Building Solutions is seeking a Fire Alarm System Designer responsible for the design and engineering of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA codes and project specifications. This position is responsible for designing and engineering systems as represented by Sciens, and responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of all associated projects. Ideal candidates will have manufacturing training, in-house training, and on-the-job experience as it relates to design. The Fire Alarm System Designer applies engineering principles to every design to meet code and customer requirements; review product specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be installed in customer facilities; interface with AutoCAD drafters, project managers and sales team, and support their various needs. The person in this role follows all quality procedures that relate to design, engineering, and drafting.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (and doing well!) Design systems in accordance with NFPA and project specifications. Participate in the review process with other design team members and drafters, as requested by management. Using software such as AutoCAD, develop floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts. Review all designs before submitting for approval to ensure they meet Sciens quality standard and code requirements. Follow all Sciens policies and procedures during daily work activities. Work independently or with others as a team to complete all tasks and related design functions. Routinely work with sales and project managers to ensure the most efficient design while maintaining the highest quality standards. Assist and provide feedback to the sales and project managers for organizing, planning, and prioritizing work. Assist management in developing and implementing a quality service program to increase efficiency and proficiencies for the design and engineering department. Assist management by advising drafters to ensure that their goals and objectives are met. Ensure design complies with applicable codes and AHJ requirements. WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU
Two to five years of experience designing commercial fire detection systems. Minimum NICET II-certified in Fire Alarm and/or Special Hazards. Strong working knowledge of fire alarm codes and operations. Strong working knowledge of AutoCad and other software programs required to perform job. Proficient understanding of current NFPA 72 design standards. Ability to read and interpret fire alarm project drawings and specifications. Strong leadership and time management skills; and the ability to multi-task. Working understanding of fire alarm design. Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
