Vala Sciences, a small biotechnology company, is seeking a CSO to direct the development and use of assays utilizing cells derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells for toxicological testing and drug discovery. MUST have proof of successful grant writing for NIH/SBIR. Key areas of biomedicine include cardiology (arrhythmias, heart failure), neurology (neurodegenerative diseases, neurodevelopmental diseases, pain), and oncology (tyrosine kinase inhibitors, chemotherapy-induced heart failure and neuropathies) and neurological effects of HIV infection and HIV antiretrovirals (NeuroHIV).The CSO will:Report directly to the CEO and give presentations to the Board of Directors.Manage a team of researchers to develop cell-based assays for drug toxicity testing and drug discovery.Organize and direct collaborative and contract research projects in drug toxicity testing and drug discovery.Write grant proposals to bring in additional revenue for research and development (e.g., NIH SBIR grants).Have experience in areas of cardiology, neurology, and oncology, and knowledge of and experience with human induced pluripotent stem cells.Attend and present podium talks and poster presentations at scientific meetings (e.g., the Society for Neuroscience and American Heart Association).Write and edit manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and promotional material.Develop collaborations and relationships with researchers at both biotechnology companies and academic institutions.Develop budgets for grants, grant funded projects, and in-house research and development.Have experience with digital microscopy, high content analysis, and analyzing cellular activity (calcium and voltage transients of excitable cells).Have strong experience with data preparation and analysis.REQUIREMENTS:Ph.D in biology/biomedicine, or M.D./Ph.D.12+ years of experience.Demonstrated ability to write funded grant proposals.Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.Job Type: Full-timePay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per yearBenefits:401(k)Dental insuranceFlexible scheduleHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offVision insuranceSchedule:8 hour shiftAbility to Commute:San Diego, CA 92121 (Required)Work Location:
