Thomson Reuters, New York, NY

U.S. Reporter (Level 1 Journalist), The Insurer, Reuters

This position is based in New York City with hybrid working available.

Looking for a new challenge? Want to cover a vibrant segment of the financial services sector as part of the Reuters newsroom? If so, this might be the job for you.

The Insurer, a market-leading specialty (re)insurance news, analysis and data service published by Reuters, is looking for a U.S. Reporter to join its New York-based team. Working in the Reuters newsroom, you'll break news for readers of The Insurer and Reuters' global audience of financial professionals.

Our scope is global but our focus is on underwriting and distribution in the area of complex risk, and the capital, infrastructure and services that support it.
Insurance and reinsurance play a critical role enabling almost every area of the global economy in a fast-changing risk environment shaped by diverse factors from climate change to cyber threats.

Our coverage provides a highly engaged audience with business-critical intelligence and information to help them navigate that evolving landscape.
We are looking for a reporter to join our growing US team to cover the sector for our flagship title The Insurer and its sister publications Program Manager, E&S Insurer and Cyber Risk Insurer. Your reporting will also be part of the Reuters feed to customers of LSEG's financial terminals and you'll be expected to collaborate with other journalists across Reuters when required.

We would prefer some experience of reporting the insurance or at least financial services sector, but of greater importance is a demonstrable track record of picking up reporting beats involving technical, sometimes complex, subjects and quickly delivering high quality content.

  • Good communication skills - you will regularly be engaging with C-suite executives at companies in the sector we cover and will be expected to build a network of sources.

  • A proven appetite for digging beneath the surface - the quality of our coverage is dependent upon our journalists' willingness to look behind the headline and seek trends to add value to what we publish
