Position Purpose

The Director, Marketing - USL Super League will be the key storyteller for the USL Super League, a new professional women's soccer league that will bring more opportunities for women players, coaches, and front office staff to more communities than ever before.

With the league launching in 2024, this position will have the unique opportunity and responsibility to bring the league to life by developing, driving, and managing its marketing strategy, brand positioning, and fan engagement. The Director, Marketing - USL Super League will work closely with the Chief Marketing Officer and with departments across the entire organization, including content, social media, communications, digital, operations, partnerships, broadcast media, and more. They will also provide support for our clubs and manage external agencies, as needed, to build and engage a passionate audience for our exciting new league and our clubs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Create and implement marketing strategies to drive awareness and growth of the USL Super League and position the USL women's pathway within the broader women's soccer ecosystem.
  • Manage and execute the strategy for driving brand awareness, including developing brand campaigns, marketing initiatives, and strategic brand partnerships.
  • Develop and manage a direct-to-fan communication strategy, including fan journeys, email marketing, mobile marketing, and others.
  • Oversee content development and execution for the Super League's owned and operated channels, including website and social media channels.
  • Provide direction to the USL internal content, video, and creative teams on the creation of breakthrough storytelling that informs, educates, and inspires women's soccer fans across North America and beyond.
  • Leverage key women's soccer moments, initiatives, and developments (e.g., Olympics) that align with overall messaging and objectives.
  • Develop and implement paid media programs to drive marketing efforts.
  • Monitor, analyze and communicate marketing efforts and results.
  • Oversee assigned staff, budgets, programs, and projects, as required.
  • Assist with internal public relations and marketing efforts within the USL network and within USL HQ.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • 6-8 years of marketing experience.
  • Understanding of and passion for the women's soccer industry, marketing, media, and fan culture, both global and domestic.
  • Strong ability to write, edit, and speak for a wide range of audiences including internal executives, club owners and executives, and the public.
  • Strategic vision and the ability to clearly articulate and successfully translate strategy into results.
  • Experience developing and executing digital and/or social media strategy and engaging content for a brand.
  • Comfortable handling confidential material and information that could have a substantial impact on the organization if made public, intentionally or not.
  • Fluency in English, written and oral. Spanish-language skills a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to manage a broad portfolio of projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in measurement tools used to assess the impact of marketing efforts.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and develop staff in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work as business needs require which may include long days, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel if / when necessary.
  • Must have U.S. work authorization.
