Job Summary

  • We're looking for a creative, driven and experienced news writer and producer for live Cheddar's soon to launch general news channel. The candidate will have experience working in live news with an expertise in writing scripts and producing segments. A sophisticated knowledge of general news including politics and business news is necessary, paired with a broad cultural awareness, and an instinct for what's trending. The writer/producer must write concise scripts; and have experience in a live environment. The ability to write and produce in a high-pressure environment and produce under tight deadlines is a must. The successful candidate must be a self- starter and independent worker. At the same time, he or she must be adaptable and flexible, a team player who is able to mix easily and work effectively in our small, scrappy and highly collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Writes clear anchor copy (vo, vo/sots, and packages for daily newscasts) in a timely manner.
  • Copy edits scripts correcting for accuracy, factual content, pronunciation, grammar and spelling.
  • Builds show graphics and elements in rundown software (automated).
  • Reads wires, internet and social media to update scripts as news changes.
  • Makes certain all elements (video and audio) meet quality standards.
  • Generates exceptional story ideas, including breaking news and creative story angles.
  • Participates in social media and achieving an active rapport with users.

Qualifications

  • Experience in journalism and live production.
  • Knowledge of news video/TV production.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Strong grammar, copy editing and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with SEO, RSS, Twitter, Facebook and other social media.

This position is identified as being performed in/or reporting to company operations in New York State. Salary ranges are supplied in compliance with New York State law. Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $64,260.00 - $105,570.00  / year. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
