Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (NC TraCS) serves as the academic home for the UNC's Clinical and Translational Sciences Award (CTSA), a funded NIH grant. The vision of the TraCS Institute is to transform how clinical and translational science is being performed, here at UNC, throughout the State and out into the CTSA national community.
Position Summary
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs.
The Scientific Grant Writer will be part of the TraCS Proposal Development Service, which works with investigators from UNC, NC State, and NC A&T in the development of competitive research grant applications and rewriting existing proposals for resubmission or submission to alternate funding mechanisms. Garnering research funding is essential to advancing the translational research supported by TraCS and UNC. The Scientific Grant Writer will research and identify funding opportunities for researchers and collaborate with department leadership and researchers to develop multi-disciplinary proposals to support TraCS research and program activities. They will employ extensive data-gathering for annual reporting as well as collaborate with fundraisers to convert complex bench science into laymen's terms. In addition, the Scientific Grant Writer will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities, working with investigators on developing research strategies and providing expert grantsmanship and proposal development advice and training to UNC, NC State and NC A&T researchers at all levels.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
This position requires a candidate who is self-directed with effective time management and organizational skills. Other required qualifications include:Experience with competitive proposal development, writing and reviewingEvidence of science or biomedical technical writing skillsExperience with NIH grant application structure and preparationImpeccable communication and presentation skillsPreferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master's or Doctorate degree in a biomedical disciplineMinimum 3 years of relevant post-graduate work experienceFamiliarity with NIH grant review processesAbility to work diplomatically and professionally with administration, faculty, study leads, and clinical personnel at all levels
