The DNR is seeking to hire one (1) Social Media Coordinator to work in the Office of Communications and Outreach (OCO) at our central office in Saint Paul, MN.

The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination of efforts for social media across various DNR divisions and developing a social media strategy in alignment with the mission and messages of the DNR. This position will also work with a content creator to develop and implement content to achieve the strategy. The purpose of this position is to expand the DNR's social media reach and engage new and diverse audiences in natural resources. This position is part of a fast-paced unit, which regularly interacts with communications professionals and program coordinators throughout the agency.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop and implement the DNR’s social media strategy and manage the day-to-day operations of the DNR’s main social media channels to ensure timely communication of DNR initiatives and messages and adherence to DNR Social Media Community Terms of Use.

Serve as the DNR’s social media team lead, working with division and regional staff to conceive and implement social media strategies and activities that advance the DNR’s strategic messaging.

Oversee DNR's main social media channel analytics and manage social media reputation to enhance social media presence and elevate issues in accordance with the strategic plan.

Monitor analytics and maintain metrics/statistics for all primary DNR social media channels overseen by OCO.

Research and suggest new techniques and/or platforms to increase demographic reach.

Develop agency strategy for building and maintaining relationships with influencers and other stakeholders for potential partnerships.

Assist in coordinating and reviewing the day-to-day efforts of the DNR's Content Creation Specialist.

This position may be eligible to telework on a full-time or part-time basis, which is subject to change. If approved, the employee would be required to complete a telework agreement. This position requires working occasional night or weekend hours to cover special events (Governor's Openers, State Fair) and to capture content in the field.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of professional experience managing organizational social media efforts, including strategy, content creation, multi-platform project management, and measurement of both analytics and audience.

A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, social media, digital marketing, or closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Knowledge of social media strategy and tactics, including content development, content optimization, content calendars, marketing and advertising, community management and moderation, analytics and audience measurement, and digital trends.

Knowledge of industry standards, methodologies, and techniques, and the ability to apply them to projects with the appropriate resource support as needed.

Knowledge of journalistic principles, practices, and techniques as they relate to the planning, development, and posting on social media.

Writing skills sufficient to construct social media posts, articles, and other written collateral that effectively communicates sometimes complex information to a wide variety of audiences.

Communication and human relations skills sufficient to work with all levels of DNR staff, stakeholders, industry representatives, and citizen groups to develop social media content.

Videography and video editing skills sufficient to create social media posts.

Strategy development and project management skills sufficient to propose and implement social media campaigns across multiple social media platforms.

Organizational and time management skills sufficient to manage multiple social media channels and their attendant content.

Ability to budget, plan and produce organic and paid social media posts or campaigns that may have varied production needs including potential travel, crew lodging and meals, and elongated time frames.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, social media, digital marketing, or closely related field.

Experience developing social media policies.

Experience creating and/or managing an influencer program(s).

Experience managing social media accounts and strategy in the public sector.

Social media marketer and/or developer certification(s).

Additional Requirements

This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record.

This position requires occasional in-state, same-day, and overnight travel to DNR events (Governor's Opener events, Commissioner level events, Minnesota State Fair, etc.)
