West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH)—established in 1979 and one of the largest and most successful food pantries in New York City—provides emergency food assistance and supportive services, including access to benefits like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), to low-income New York families. West Side Campaign Against Hunger’s mission is to alleviate hunger by ensuring all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and supportive services.WSCAH has seen significant growth and changes through the COVID-19 pandemic, as food security has significantly increased, while our community of customers, partners, funders, and individual donors has also grown. WSCAH’s aim is to increase the organizational profile across NYC through elevated communication and engagement, to highlight and position WSCAH as a leading change-maker in emergency food across NYC.Compensation and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 based on experience and qualifications. WSCAH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including company-paid medical, dental, and life insurance, 403b retirement plan with 6% match after one year of employment, as well as paid holidays and vacation leave.JOB DESCRIPTION:

West Side Campaign Against Hunger is seeking a highly motivated Communication Generalist with a design mindset to fill our new role of Communications Manager. This position will be responsible for leading and managing the digital execution across email, website, social media for fundraising and engagement campaigns. They will work closely in coordination with the Chief Development and Communication Officer and the entire Development Team to develop the quality and timeliness of all communications activities, both internally and externally. Ideally they will be proficient in conversational and written English and Spanish.Communications:● Work closely with the Chief Development Officer to create and execute WSCAH communication strategies to increase awareness of the organization and financial support for WSCAH.● Lead and manage digital execution across email, website, social media for fundraising and engagement campaigns.● Manage website (updating pages for all related events, campaigns, press, advocacy)● Work with the CEO and Chief Development Officer to coordinate regular Board communications and support quarterly Committee and Board Meetings.● Build and development program-specific content to enhance storytelling.● Lead monthly Editorial Calendar meetings and manage Editorial Calendar; an integrated marketing tool to manage goals, strategies, and benchmarks for all communication channels:o This includes working with cross functional program staff to develop marketing and audience engagement plans for all key programs and donor engagement.● Coordinate the timely release of information to an array of communication channels about WSCAH’s programs.● Coordinate the design, production, and distribution of all print and digital advertisements and materials.● Lead the digital execution of fundraising and engagement campaigns across email, website, and social media.● Provide significant support on a growing external communications effort via implementation of a focused, data-driven communications calendar, key stakeholder engagement, tracking and outreach to media contacts, and continual testing of new models.● Develop an internal communications strategy to clearly communicate organizational priorities, growth, and opportunities to staff and Board of Directors.● Support executive and program staff to communicate with media outlets effectively and track all interactions.● Support the creation of fundraising materials, including but not limited to appeals, customer stories, SWAG, and annual reports, as well as planning, overseeing, and implementing all donor communications across all distribution channels.Donor-focused management● Support individual donor initiatives, ensuring all donors are appropriately recognized and receive regular communication.● Create and execute fundraising appeals through direct mail and online fundraising.Required Skills and Qualifications:Qualified candidates will possess a passion for WSCAH’s mission along with:● A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience● Design mind-set● Keen attention to detail● Critical thinking skills● Ability to manage process and strategy● Understanding of current social media platforms and their use for non-personal engagement● Excellent communication skills, including developing consistent messaging, compelling campaigns and an overall cohesive communications platform● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong familiarity with HTML email marketing, web-based marketing tools and social media platformsPreferred Skills and Qualifications:● Experience working in Emergency Food, or at direct service non-profit organization● Understanding of community and region philanthropic community● Written and spoken proficiency in both English and SpanishThe ideal candidate will also demonstrate:● A positive attitude, strong teamwork ethic and the ability to take complete ownership of responsibilities● The ability to work under pressure and time constraints as well as to handle several tasks simultaneously● The ability to be strategic, creative, and flexible in the planning and execution of goals and strategies● The ability to work well with people at all levels and to develop and maintain beneficial relationships with colleagues, donors, and community members● Flexibility in scheduleThis job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the position.
