Northrop Grumman's Space System is seeking to fill the position of

Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) engineer , located in

Dulles, Virginia . There is no option to telecommute in this position.GNC is designing, building, testing spacecraft subsystems for a mix of DoD, NASA, and commercial customers. We are leaders in innovative solutions to the rapidly growing/evolving fields of space based autonomous rendezvous and docking and rapid design/production of small satellites. We are seeking a highly talented and ambitious engineer to take responsibility for the attitude control solutions that meet our spacecraft requirements.The spacecraft GNC analysis engineer will work within the GNC subsystem team and under the supervision of the GNC subsystem lead.A spacecraft GNC analysis engineer is expected to:Support mission operations scripting, procedure development, rehearsals, and on-orbit execution of exercises.Design, analyze, and tune spacecraft attitude and position control loops using time and frequency domain techniquesDesign, analyze, and tune sequential filters (e.g. Kalman filters) for attitude determination and relative navigationDesign, develop, test and verify flight algorithms for the GNC subsystem and support flight software qualification testingAnalyze and test the spacecraft GNC subsystem performance using simulations and other analytic toolsPerform analysis to support early design phase concept development including actuator sizing and placement, sensor selection and placement, and predicted performance assessmentsDevelop simulation models for sensors (e.g. star tracker, rate gyro, accelerometer, GPS, magnetometer, sun sensors), actuators (e.g. reaction wheel, torque bar, thruster, CMG), system dynamics (e.g. rigid body, multi-body, orbit mechanics, flexible models, propellant slosh), and the space environment (e.g. atmospheric, solar radiation pressure, third-body gravity, geopotential)Communication is a key element of your role and all GNC engineers are expected to:Apply engineering principles, industry standards, company process, and knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, classical/modern control, and estimation theory to perform tasks to advanced program/project goalsDocument designs, analysis, and test results and create presentation materialsPresent designs, analysis, and test results to internal and external customersWork well within small- to medium-sized groupsThis position can be filled at the Engineer or PrincipalBasic Qualifications:EngineerBS Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Math with at least 2 years of professional experience (0 years with Masters, or 0 years with PhD). Experience can be considered in lieu of degreeDirect spacecraft/satellite GNC experience performing design, analysis, HW and I&T, or (possibly) flight operations.Must have an active Top Secret clearance at time of application, preferably with SCI accessPrincipalBS Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Math with at least 5 years of professional experience (3 years with Masters, or 0 years with PhD). Experience can be considered in lieu of degreeDirect spacecraft/satellite GNC experience performing design, analysis, HW and I&T, or (possibly) flight operations.Must have an active Top Secret clearance at time of application, preferably with SCI accessPreferred QualificationsMS or PhD degree in engineering, physics, or mathMinimum overall GPA of 3.25Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++Experience in spacecraft GNC subsystem design, analysis, and testingExperience implementing GNC algorithms on embedded systemsExperience with RPO algorithms, practices and planning strategiesPrior work experience in related fieldProficiency in Microsoft office suite, version control tools such as SVN or GitExperience with Model Based Systems engineering, digital transformation tools such as the Atlassian suite.Previous/current membership or leadership roles in professional groups, clubs, or extracurricular activities is desiredExcellent analytical and problem-solving abilitiesThe Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Division is a strategic partner specializing in commercial and classified partnerships with the design, delivery, operation and sustainment of satellites and human spacecraft. NGIS-SSEngineeringSalary Range:

$87,200 - $130,800Salary Range 2:

$107,300 - $160,900The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
