Our mission is to help people find, evaluate, use and create knowledge to better the world.Library Development Office (LDO) is responsible for leading the fundraising program for all of the constituent libraries, which includes opportunities that align with and support the Library's mission and strategic plan, such as library core services, programs, facilities, units and other student support initiatives.Job SummaryReporting to the university librarian (UL) and with a dotted line to university development and alumni relation (UDAR), the executive director of development is a member of the Library Cabinet, its senior leadership team, with overall responsibility for leading and managing the library development office, including gift solicitation, constituent relations, prospect development, strategic planning, and advancement services.ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership and Strategic Management - Major Gifts and Donor RelationsManages a team of several professionals and administrative support staff and a large and complex fundraising program.Works with the university librarian, UDAR, academics, staff, volunteers, and other campus development officers, to lead the planning and execution of the Library's major gifts and external relations efforts.Oversees the effective 'mining' of the campus alumni and prospect database.Manages the Library's Board of Advisors and other donor relationships.Ensures the identification of the Library's leadership and principal gift prospects.Develops and manages a portfolio of major and principal gift donors and prospects capable of giving $1M-$5M and up.Applies advanced-level knowledge of capital campaign structures.Selects, trains, mentors, guides, directs development staff, and performs the full range of managerial and supervisory duties.Incorporates gift planning practices into donor strategies.Monitors and reports results of major gift activity.Completes regular supervisory and other training.Strategic PlanningHas significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals for the department.Conducts and participates in short- and long-range strategic planning with the Library's leadership teams.Facilitates the conceptualization and packaging of the Library's efforts.Budget and Financial OperationsManages the Development unit's budget within stated guidelines.Collaborates with the university librarian and the Library's chief administrative officer.Prepares an annual budget, including targets for philanthropic gifts.External RelationsManages high-level external volunteers and volunteer groups for the Library.Demonstrates nuanced understanding of Bay Area non-profit and cultural organizations.Other duties as assignedPosition requires semi-regular evening and weekend work, as well as occasional travel.Required QualificationsDemonstrated success in identifying, cultivating and directly soliciting major gifts.Demonstrated leadership/management skills and advanced supervision experience.Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.Excellent public speaking and persuasive skills.Demonstrated skill in working and collaborating effectively in a team environment.Excellent project and time management skills.Technical proficiency with computers and software.Demonstrated knowledge of or ability to quickly learn all aspects of UC fundraising.Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Salary & BenefitsThe budgeted salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $190,000 to $225,000.00.How to ApplyTo apply, please submit your resume and cover letter.Diversity StatementPlease include a brief (1-2 paragraph) statement on your contributions to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in your professional experience.Equal Employment OpportunityThe University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
