USD $95,900.00/Yr. - USD $222,100.00/Yr.Special Instructions to ApplicantsApplicants are required to submit both a RESUME and a COVER LETTER to be considered for this position.Position SummaryThe Law School seeks an energetic, creative and engaged Assistant Dean of Communications to oversee the School's external communications and marketing. The Assistant Dean will expand and implement a strategic communications program designed to enhance the reputation of UCLA Law and increase awareness of its accomplishments and leadership in legal education, and position it within regional, national and global communities. The program has a number of distinct audiences, including alumni, donors, potential students, academia, the media, and the general public. The Assistant Dean oversees and implements the School's communications strategy for all of these constituencies, including developing creative strategies and methods for increasing awareness of the School's achievements among peer schools and members of the legal profession, managing media relations, utilizing social media and the School website to advance goals and initiatives, engaging in crisis communications and strategic planning, preparing the School's alumni magazine and newsletters and developing marketing materials. The Assistant Dean's primary duties also comprise of extensive writing and editing for printed or electronic materials and messaging, from project-specific announcements to executive communications. The Assistant Dean serves as a key member of the Dean's senior management team and reports to the Dean of the School of Law.Salary & Compensation*UCLA provides a full pay range. (Required)Experience managing teams. Ability to effectively work with a team in a fast-paced setting. (Required)Demonstrated experience in organizing news conferences and other information for news media. Ability to manage a high volume of media inquiries. Advanced skill in engaging with media and public speaki (Required)Experience in making prudent and strategic decisions and taking appropriate action in situations without clearly established criteria or standards. (Required)Superior writing and editing skills. Advanced ability to develop messages and media that showcase the School's strengths in compelling and creative ways. (Required)Ability to translate academic research for popular audiences and work successfully in a university setting. (Required)Ability to think creatively and critically to prioritize and organize workload efficiently in the face of competing deadlines and fluctuating priorities. (Required)Experience performing with frequent interruptions. (Required)Demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive communications issues and diffuse challenging situations. (Required)Demonstrated experience managing financial resources strategically and efficiently to produce high-quality work within established budgetary parameters. (Required)Ability to work collaboratively with a large number of stakeholders. (Required)Advanced knowledge of the operation of the print and broadcast news media. (Required)Advanced knowledge of and significant experience working with social media. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal AffiliationsBachelor's Degree in Marketing and/or communications or equivalent combination of education and experience/training. (Required)Master's Degree in Communications or a related field. (Preferred)
