MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor's degree in fields such as: Design, Human Factors, Communications, Journalism, Business, or related field.

In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, a High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience designing digital interactive websites, in addition to the experience stated below, will be considered

Experience

A minimum of four (4) years of experience supporting a complex digital environment with multiple products, that includes:

Comfortable working on a geographically dispersed team and collaborating remotelyExperience conceptualizing and designing digital interactive tools for webExperience across varying products, platforms, and mobile appsExpertise creating typography, composition, color, layout, design thinking, and content strategy in the design solutions

Mission Essential DesignationIn accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

SUMMARY

The User Experience Designer, Passenger Information (UX) is responsible for creating simplified wayfinding, trip planning tools, and screen and website assets to improve usability and accessibility for customers and patrons, and to retain and grow ridership. The UX Designer gathers requirements through research and uses functional understanding of coding languages to design the features and functions that best serve customer needs. The incumbent builds out new programs for digital screens, websites and mobile applications, and reviews user feedback to determine potential defects or areas that need further clarification. The UX Designer performs usability tests and works closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to refine and ensure functionality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develops high-quality, user-centered digital experiences across all media forms; mobile, website, applications, and social spaces with the goal of increasing ridership and making transit easier to navigateGenerates information architecture, wireframes, user flow models and interactive prototypes to optimize user's tasks and design for multi-channel deployment, including mobile devices.Partners with product managers, engineers, researchers, and copywriters to define great experiences from initial concept through successful implementation.Works with cross-functional teams to identify and understand end user's needs, goals, and objectives. Conducts user research to better understand clients and their needs and ensures the usability of our products. Participates in customer events as needed.Incorporates best practices to ensure the highest levels of accessibility and usability. Maintains Section 508 compliance and other emerging accessibility standards.Maintains multiple projects simultaneously, balancing varying deadlines and changing priorities. Switches gears quickly to accommodate the shifting needs of a dynamic, operations-focused website, app and screen network whose main users are daily transit commuters.Performs regular site monitoring for quality and consistency. Works with communications team and marketing project managers and regularly reviews pages and troubleshoots problem areas.Constructs, deploys, and evaluates testing models for usability, accessibility and functionality. Translates complex information needs into simple designs that customers can easily understand.Documents business, functional and end-user requirements. Creates user-facing documentation, training material and marketing collateral, as needed. Ensures complete and organized file maintenance.OTHER FUNCTIONS

Engages in continuing education to ensure WMATA stays in compliance and that we serve all of our customers.
