Role Summary

Urban Outfitters is seeking an apparel Assistant Designer to design and execute the Out From Under Intimates collection each season, ensuring it aligns with the seasonal theme and overarching aesthetic of the Urban Outfitters brand.

Role Responsibilities

Design:

Contributes new ideas and suggestions that help support seasonal brand direction.Understanding how to create and update all style tech packs in Tradestone ensuring accuracy for entire life cycle of each style.Possesses mocking, draping, sewing, and other technical skills related to garment making.Understanding business terminology and general construction vocabulary.Knowledge of fabric and trims, wash and dye treatments and techniques.Excellent ability to sketch design ideas accurately and emotionally while maintaining a good sense of proportion and can accurately illustrate details to communicate design vision to manager.Highly organized with capacity to anticipate change.Assist in preparing presentation materials for seasonal benchmark meetings such as Sketch Review, Finalization, and Print + Color day.Maintains awareness of trend, shares research and inspiration with direct reports (blogs, magazines, retail experience, street-style, and vintage exploration as it relates to the UO product).Be able to perform the same responsibilities as a Design Assistant if they are out of office.Business Acumen:

Takes responsibility for organizing their work, setting their own timelines and recognizing conditions and results that may impact the assignment.Investigates design solutions for projects with an awareness of cost, process, and impact on partners.Set up spec sheet for all bodies, communicates fit and construction details to Technical Design department.Ability to multi-task to execute project timelines and provide timely solutions.Developing and understanding of the UO customer aesthetic through existing metrics and cross-functional partners.Proficient with technology; Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe XD, Procreate, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.Assisting team with developing AI imagery through Artificial Intelligence applications, for example: Mid-Journey and PromeAI.Maintaining and updating CADs for seasonal assortment in Adobe XD.Analyzing Velo metrics every Monday to understand business and sell through of product.Leadership:

Independently executes assignments once given direction.Develops well thought out comments and opinions using both point of view and data to contribute during meetings.Remains humble while receiving feedback openly and positively with a willingness to collaborate on ideas or processes that may require necessary changes.Communicates and collaborates effectively both internally and with cross-functional partners and vendors to ensure product execution reflects design intent.Displays the ability to "find work" and offers to help teammates during down time.Effectively manages up in a timely manner.Maintains courteous, professional email/phone and interpersonal relationships with cross-functional partners and vendors. Ability to format a professional and comprehensive email.Learns from mistakes quickly and displays curiosity. Asks questions, and probes for clarity and understanding.Takes pride in the quality of their work with strong attention to detail.Flexible, adaptable and flourishes in a fast-paced, high pressure and challenging work environment.Role Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Apparel Design or equivalent experience preferred.Strong understanding of the Urban Outfitters target customer.Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative and cost-effective design.Excellent ability to sketch design ideas accurately and emotionally, strong sense of proportion and can accurately illustrate details.Working knowledge of garment construction, fabric and trims, wash and dye treatments and techniques.Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with partners in Design, Buying, PD, Tech Design, Print/Color + Concept.Excellent hand and computer sketching/ CAD skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as well as Procreate.Proactive and self-motivated.Organized with a strong ability prioritize multiple deadline driven tasks and flexibility to adapt to a fast paced and frequent changes.Proficient in Microsoft platforms (Excel, Powerpoint & Word) preferred.Possesses mocking, draping, sewing and other technical skills related to garment making.
