WFLA News Channel 8 is looking for a unicorn. Ours is retiring, and we need someone special to replace them.The Special Projects Producer works closely with the News Director accomplishing high level assignments and events. They are point for Elections, Gasparilla Parade and Award nominations. They are also responsible for all news and sports specials and big projects assigned to the News Director. They will primarily be planning and producing long format pieces, researching, setting up shoots, writing to video, and on occasion, editing video pieces as well. The job also includes producing and editing 30- or 60-minute specials throughout the year produced by the news and sports department, live or recorded, on a variety of topics and relating to a number of company franchises.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:+ Produces special reports and sponsored segments for newscasts and digital content for broadcast across all platforms+ Writes news and feature stories+ Approves scripts+ Edits video+ Must be a self-starter, organized and extremely detail-oriented, with superior reporting and interviewing skills+ Must be comfortable in a control room situation and have the ability to write in a variety of news platforms, programs and formats. This includes writing for digital, newscasts and breaking news, often on a deadline.+ Must maintain a good working relationship with anchors, reporters, photographers, as well as members of the sales and marketing staff. Must be able to work unusual hours and work independently.+ Research and execute elections and coordinate and perform elections returns broadcast throughout election night+ Performs other duties as assigned+ Producing newscasts when neededRequirements and Skills:+ Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.+ Fluency in English, with a mastery of proper grammar.+ Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.+ Minimum two years' experience in news operations and producing.+ Proficiency with computers, news writing and editing programs, Zoon or similar, office equipment+ Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.+ Expected to be able to field produce live events, including large breaking news coverages, sporting events, or planned live events.
