Grow. with KBR!Around here, we define the future.But we at KBR we share one goal: to improve the world responsibly as a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers.KBR is seeking a Landsat Communications Specialist to join its Communications and Outreach (C&O) team on the Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center near Sioux Falls, South Dakota.Satellite imagery documents changes to the Earth’s surface, and scientists use this data to assist land managers when making decisions for public benefit. The right candidate for this position will have advanced experience in preparing stories and headlines for online distribution and social media platforms and be fluent with content management systems to keep our websites fresh.Our dynamic work environment requires collaboration, creativity, and a professional and enthusiastic attitude. The candidate chosen will work together with team members, scientists and engineers to generate story ideas, write articles, craft video scripts, and collaborate on graphics and animations needed to make a story engaging for the public.Education: BA in Communications, Journalism, Remote Sensing, Geography, or closely related disciplineExperience: 5 years recent and relevant experienceEssential Job Functions:+ Navigate and translate between technical and journalistic writing styles for a public audience+ Research, write, review, and edit written and visual communication products that increase the understanding of the USGS Landsat Mission and Landsat Science Products+ Help maintain the accuracy and relevancy of the USGS Landsat Missions Web Site and social media platforms+ Monitor remote sensing science news and track major Earth events for consideration in various print and online platforms+ Work closely with team members to identify EROS and C&O project prioritiesDesired Skills and Abilities:+ Technical Skills:+ Journalistic interviewing and copywriting skills+ An eye for visual storytelling in written and video products+ Knowledge of GIS techniques, remote sensing principles, and related science applications+ Experience curating, packaging, and managing layers of content to reach audiences of all levels+ Experience editing and publishing web content via a content management system+ Highly proficient skills with Microsoft Office; video and audio editing experience a plus+ Soft Skills:+ Ability to work and communicate effectively with teammates, managers, and others+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective questioning, listening, and presentation skills+ An appreciation for and interest in science, specifically Earth Science+ Motivated to gain a broad understanding of the USGS EROS mission+ Self-starter with an ability to multi-taskWORK LOCATIONThis position supports a team anchored in Sioux Falls, SD and is offered as a hybrid work environment.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS+ Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential+ The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account.KBR partners with several other companies to fulfill its requirements as a government contractor.
