Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.RequirementsJob OverviewThe Metadata and Preservation Assistant reports directly to the Head of the Metadata Services Unit along with 4 Metadata Specialists and 2 Metadata Librarians. Work is performed according to priorities set by the Unit Head and within guidelines and procedures established for the Department (eorgetown.edu/tech-services) . The Metadata and Preservation Assistant is also responsible for preservation related activities such as minor book repair, sending and receiving items from bindery, participating in library collections related disaster response and recovery activities, and sending/receiving damaged items to and from commercial conservation vendors. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:+ Receives all approval and firm order monographs for Main Campus Libraries in the online Library system.+ Performs physical preparation of all library materials purchased by the libraries.+ Performs database maintenance work, and participates in special projects as assigned by supervisor.+ Performs basic copy cataloging to ensure that full cataloging records are accessible to library users.+ Manages the book repair area regularly to keep it clean and functional; and ensures that essential supplies are stocked.+ Gathers and prepare materials for shipment to a commercial bindery service (vendor); receives and pays invoices for completed shipments. Update records in binding and cataloging databases, and resolves complex problems associated with these processes.+ Sorts Departmental mail on a daily basis; opens, identifies, checks and sorts all book shipments, packages and flat mail received in Technical Services and verifies the completeness and accuracy of shipments; retrieves departmental mail from the mailroom in the absence of the Mailroom Business Assistant.+ Participates in the salvage of library materials damaged by water, mold, fire, or other disasters. In the case of a large-scale disaster, provide salvage efforts in coordination with Libraries Collections Disaster Team. May lead students in disaster response and recovery activities.+ Trains student assistants in the physical receiving and processing of materials acquired by the library.Required Qualifications+ College degree required+ Demonstrated experience working with automated systems, data entry, reviewing and updating of records+ Demonstrated experience with Windows desktop, file transfer protocols, word processing, e-mail and internet resources and tools Flexibility to work in a changing work environment and take on new responsibilities and projects+ Aptitude for good analytical and problem-solving skills+ Must be able walk and stand for long periods of time, lift heavy boxes up to 25 lbs. and push pushing heavy book carts up to 50 lbs+ Demonstrated evidence of attention to detail and accuracy+ Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace, and ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, students, and staffPreferred Qualifications+ Experience with receiving, physical processing or basic copy cataloging in an academic library+ Experience with bindery and minor book repair+ Experience with an integrated library system, specifically Alma+ Experience with OCLC software+ Ability to respond to varying time pressures with shifting priorities and changing constraints+ Ability to interact collaboratively and work effectively with colleaguesWork Mode DesignationThis position has been designated as On-Campus.
