Job Description

This position is considered a dual-role position. The duties of the successful candidate will combine those of a Proof Reader and a Desktop Publisher. The daily duties will be based on current business needs, offering variety in day-to-day tasks.

Duties for a Proof Reader include:

Proofreading/editing technical documentation for:

Mistakes and inconsistencies in the subject matter.

Consistency in terminology throughout a document.Language is simplified and easy to understand.Adherence to customer specifications.Verification of customer comment incorporation in document.

Technical illustrations.

Table and figures/callouts match description in the text.Text matches the figures/callouts and tables.Figure/callouts correspond with part list items.Artwork document size, font size, line weight, line styles match project specifications.

Duties for Desktop Publisher include:

Incorporating manuscripts developed by technical writers and illustrations developed by technical illustrators into formatted documents that meet customer requirements.Utilizing publishing software and customer specifications to design page layouts for manuals, training material, reports, etc. that can be printed and/or electronically accessed.Working with editors to incorporate revisions based on technical (customer) and editorial comments.Experience / Qualifications

Must have a solid work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to work in a team setting.Good PC skills are required, including an ability to use:Microsoft Word - Knowledge of style and formatting functions, page layouts, etc.PowerPoint - Familiar with Microsoft PowerPoint or equivalent program (Visme, Google Slides, etc.)Adobe FrameMaker - Familiar with FrameMaker or equivalent program (PageMaker or InDesign)Adobe Acrobat - Familiar with the functions of Adobe Acrobat (commenting tools, deleting/inserting multiple PDFs, bookmarks, etc.)The following program experience/knowledge are pluses:

XML/SGML (Ex. Arbortext Editor)Microsoft Excel/Access

Detail oriented - Strong attention to detail such as margins, font sizes, and the overall appearance and accuracy of documents.Organizational skills - Ability to work on multiple projects in a single day. Must be good at prioritizing tasks based on provided schedules.Communication skills - Work as part of a team with writers, editors, and illustrators.Artistic ability - Eye for how graphics and text will look to create pages that are visually appealing, legible, and easy to read.Typing skills - 40 WPM +Experience working with technical data such as engineering drawings a plus but not required.
