It is a customer-focused, action-biased, data-driven team chartered with driving business by understanding customer behavior using advanced analytics. This is a high-impact and high-visibility role within the organization with expectations to deliver immediate results. The complexity of this role requires one to develop actionable insights from copious amounts of competitive, conversion, and behavioral data from proprietary and third-party data.As the Senior Data Scientist - Category Marketing, you are responsible for providing insights to drive measurable performance of Marketing within all of Walmart's product categories. You will help develop a holistic understanding of how product categories, marketing channels, and other business levers work together to grow customer engagement, drive incremental sales, and contribute to longer-term strategic objectives. You will partner closely with other teams on measurement & optimization methods and on developing and utilizing existing models and tools to establish interdependencies between product categories and will collaborate with key parts of Marketing (Performance Marketing, Category Marketing, Brand Marketing, Data Engineering) to develop relevant solutions and timely insights which inform marketing strategy and enable data-driven decision-making.About Walmart MarketingWalmart Marketing is a dynamic, multidimensional organization dedicated to redefining how the world shops through impactful creative and fast-paced innovation - all grounded in customer insights and brand strategy. We are transitioning towards a model where associates are expected to be present in the office 2 to 3 days each week, while still allowing for some level of flexibility.You Will Make An Impact ByAnalyzing large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights to measure performance against competition and inform business growth opportunities.Researching, creating, and implementing advanced statistical models and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms on fast-moving structured and unstructured data to support decision making.Applying causal inference methodologies like A/B testing, multi-arm bandits, and factorial designs, to evaluate marketing strategies and optimize key performance metrics.Utilizing machine learning (including linear, logistic models), time series analysis, and clustering, to generate predictive models that enhance marketing decision-making.Leading projects and taking ownership of the whole lifecycle of projects, communicating with cross-functional teams (e.g., Engineers, Finance, Merch, Ops, Marketing, etc.) to align progress and collaborate on integrations.Using Walmart's vast 1st Party and 3rd Party data to analyze customer behavior, build compelling customer segments, and activate audience targets to drive business performance across channels.Communicating findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through clear and concise reports, visualizations, and presentations to gain alignment and drive business actions.Guiding and mentoring junior data scientists on modeling processes and algorithms and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.You'll Sweep Us Off Our Feet IfYou have a strong grasp of statistical concepts including hypothesis testing, Bayesian inference, and causality.You have a proven record of developing predictive models using various machine learning algorithms, tailored to solve marketing challenges.You have an in-depth understanding of machine learning frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch) for model development and validation.You have experience contributing to a high-performance culture delivering multiple projects, priorities in a fast-paced and growing segment of Walmart ecommerce business.You can collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.You have hands-on experience and skill communicating complex quantitative information and insights to a broad audience of senior leaders & decision makers.You are curious, proactive, and comfortable working in unstructured environments.What You'll BringOption 1 - Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field.Option 2 - Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 year's experience in an analytics related field.Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.Expert at SQL and Python - ability to manipulate large quantities of data to drive business decisions is a must.Proven advanced modeling experience in leading data-driven projects from definition to execution, driving and influencing project roadmaps.Strong organizational skills, a strong sense of ownership and accountability, and the ability to lead projects, communicate effectively, and be a self-starter.Preferred Qualifications2+ years of experience in Marketing Analytics, Digital Analytics, or eCommerce Analytics with experience working with marketers to maximize marketing contribution to business performance goals.Master of Business Administration or Master's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.Knowledge of machine learning and AI techniques to build and implement models that optimize marketing performance.Knowledge of statistical concepts and Test/Control methodologies (A/B and multivariate testing).Experience leveraging big data technologies (Hive/Hadoop) and modern data visualization tools (Tableau, ThoughtSpot, Looker) to blend data from multiple sources to help answer multi-dimensional business questions.Experience building and applying customer segmentation, cohort models, and personas to actionable results.You have a passion for working in a fast-paced agile environment.Benefits & PerksBeyond competitive pay, you can receive incentive awards for your performance.
