SPORTS WRITER IJob DetailsJob LocationEIMG N Dyersville Commercial - Dyersville, IAPosition TypePart TimeEducation LevelHigh SchoolTravel PercentageRoad WarriorJob CategoryMedia - Journalism - NewspaperDescriptionSupervisory Responsibilities:+ People: None other than self.+ Data: Local sports copy and files; photos and files created by other members of the staff.+ Things: Computer (PC), printer, scanner, office equipment, photo and video equipment and other supplies.Overall Responsibilities:+ Cover sports assignments by taking photos and collecting data and information, and write stories as assigned within the newspaper guidelines and deadlines.+ Enter copy and photos produced both by self and other staff members into the TCMS software.+ Write news and feature stories for both print and online as assigned.+ Take news and feature photos and videos as assigned.Specific Responsibilities:+ Attend, report, photograph and write about sports/news events within professional standards as assigned.+ Use equipment with great care, keep the camera and equipment clean, maintained, and ready for next person to use.+ Maintain a "customer comes first" environment with pro-active commitment to internal and external customer service.+ Work with editorial and other departments to achieve goals and objectives, utilizing interactive skills to assist on projects, as well as suggesting ideas for improvements on current methods and procedures to enhance the efficient operation overall.+ Participate in the Great Game of Business.+ Other job-related duties as assigned.QualificationsBehavior: Self-motivated, team player and resourceful. Shows enthusiasm for the business. Conducts self in a professional manner that enhances the public image of the company with dress and self-care appropriate for the job. Shows a willingness to accept guidance and constructive criticism. Maintains a valid driver’s license.Skills: Keyboarding, following each publication’s style, with speed and accuracy. Excellent command of the English language with good grammar, spelling and overall communication skills. Performs tasks efficiently and accurately on deadline with objective reporting, interviewing, writing, typing, planning and organizing. Ability to learn new skills and knowledge. Collaborates as a member of the journalism profession.Knowledge: High school diploma or equivalent. Basic understanding of most sports, including rules and terms. Working command of the English language.
