Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a communications and outreach professional to support the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Virtual Climate Laboratory (NVCL) project (nergy.gov/) . The NVCL is a comprehensive web portal for climate science funded by the DOE that centralizes access to climate research and climate-related internships, appointments, grants, and other opportunities for students and professionals at all levels.The successful candidate should be a communications generalist able to develop and execute communications plans, work with stakeholders from multiple organizations, and conduct outreach to targeted audiences especially in university settings. The role requires the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and successfully collaborate with staff from Argonne and a diverse array of partner organizations. The role will be part of Argonne’s Communications and Public Affairs division (reporting to the Head of Communications for the Computing, Environment and Life Sciences directorate) and will work directly with the NVCL project manager in Argonne’s Environmental Sciences division.**Primary duties include:**+ Develop and execute strategic communications and outreach plans for the NVCL.+ Develop, with NVCL leadership, an outreach strategy that aligns with project goals which include raising awareness and usage of NVCL among universities (especially minority-serving institutions) and other key audiences.+ Build relationships with stakeholders including the NVCL Advisory Council and representatives of participating DOE labs and institutions.+ Represent NVCL at conferences and outreach events.+ Provide communications support including reports, press releases, digital content, videos, social media content, presentations, events and printed collateral that meet identified goals with target audiences.+ Work with NVCL partners and Argonne’s Communications and Public Affairs Division to create a variety of communications products from feature stories and graphics to banners and videos.+ Track and report key metrics that guide effective communications and outreach strategies.**Position Requirements**+ Broad-based integrated marketing communications generalist experience in content creation, outreach events, external communications, and digital/social media.+ Experience defining target audiences, setting goals, and preparing information and tactics to reach those audiences.+ Experience in outreach or event planning preferred, especially working with student populations.+ Demonstrated success writing for a variety of formats, in varying levels of formality, with strategic attention to tone.+ Innovative problem solving.+ Client service mindset, able to take in and clarify objectives and goals of project stakeholders and leadership.+ History of delivering measurable results (increased awareness, higher client satisfaction, increased engagement, etc.)+ Cultivate and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external partners at all levels.+ Deadline driven, highly responsive and organized with strong attention to detail.+ Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.+ B.A. or B.S. in communications, marketing, English, journalism, or a related scientific/technical discipline and 4+ years’ experience or equivalent.This is a temporary full-time job lasting through May 2027 with the possibility of work being extended.
