Job SummaryReports to Sleep Manager under supervision by Polysomnographic Technologist. A Student Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Medical Director and designee (department director/manager/supervisor/technologist) to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education.AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:Corewell Health Sleep Evaluation Services- and/or Sleep Apnea CentersEssential Functions+ Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or Medical Director and laboratory protocols.+ Complete and verify documentation. Explain procedures to the patient.+ Prepare and calibrate testing equipment.+ Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. Follow department procedural protocols (PSG, MSLT, MWT, PAP, oxygen titration etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data.+ Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for optimal patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration and CO2 monitoring, etc).+ Fully engaged in own training and orientation and necessary education needed to develop skill set to meet all expectations of a Polysomnographic Technologist.+ Participates in quality management program, Joint Commission initiatives and process improvement projects.+ Establishes and maintains all policies, procedures in compliance with regulatory agencies, including maintaining the standards and accreditation set forth by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).+ Facilitates adequate inter and intra departmental communication.+ Participates in committees, professional organization and/or community activities as assigned.Qualifications+ Required Currently, in a formal polysomnography program and/or enrolled in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option OR enrolled in or have completed the A-STEP online Self Study Modules in preparation for certification exam.+ Preferred Associate's Degree+ Familiar with the field of sleep medicine with progressive completion of an A-Step or other CAAHEP program.
