The position is responsible for using the individual’s creative skill to contribute to the layout of religious oriented customer orders. This includes designing, proofing, and setting up orders for production. The incumbent will perform both simple and highly complex graphic design work, taking projects from concept to completion. Required to work under moderate supervision and has moderate latitude for using personal initiative and independent judgment.Essential Job Functions (*=Non-essential tasks):+ Assist customers and internal departments in creating custom design pieces.+ Communicate and coordinate work with other designers.+ Communicate with customers when necessary.+ Work in conjunction with Design, Customer Service, Order Entry, and Sales to create, and send to production 4, 2, and 1 color custom offering envelopes to be ran on in-house presses.+ Provide input on improving and/or the creation of new processes.+ Participate in initial customer and internal meetings (as needed) when working on design projects.Requirements:Experience:+ 3-5 years of work experience in design, layout, color and correction as well as 4 color printing process preparation.+ Knowledge of printing presses desirable.Education:+ Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field of study preferred, or commensurate work experience.+ Minimum of 3 years of work-related experience in a comparable field or equivalent mix of education and experience.Skills and Abilities:+ A complete and thorough proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat.+ Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook recommended.+ A thorough understanding of the 4-color prepress application in a Macintosh OS X based work environment.+ The ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with customers and internal departments.+ Understanding of the Catholic Church and practices are highly desirable.+ Previous experience with Inspire Designer software desirable.+ Artistic Sensibility - Knowledge about design elements, such as color and composition, is vital for graphic designers. Artistic ability and creativity are essential.+ Technical Skill – This position requires a general interest in computers and an aptitude for learning new technology. As technology continues to develop, the incumbent will be required to keep up with new technologies in the graphic design and prepress fields.+ Communication Ability - Sometimes known as visual communication, graphic design requires the ability to effectively present ideas—both verbally and visually. You'll need to be able to communicate your ideas to customers and internal departments to achieve the end results they require.+ Organization – The incumbent needs to be organized to meet deadlines and stay within budgeted hours. General business organizational skills are required.+ Problem Solving Ability – The incumbent must possess strong problem-solving skills. Choosing just the right fonts, colors and lines to create a balanced composition, while simultaneously conveying meaning, is required.Working Environment:+ Incumbent will work with the Customer Service, Order Entry and Production daily. This may vary depending on the project.+ This is a hybrid position. Incumbent will be working in a home office, with the ability to work on site as needed in Huntington, IN. Incumbents will be provided the necessary computer hardware and software to work in a hybrid environment.+ 90% or more of incumbent’s time will be spent on the computer.+ Incumbent must be able to sit for long periods of time as 99% of the time is spent sitting.+ Incumbent must be able to travel for training which could be 1 or 2 times per year for 1 – 3 consecutive days.Supervisory Responsibilities:+ None(Note: These statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work involved for this job.
