Be Team AAFP.**SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:**As a public relations strategist you’ll elevate family medicine in the media by presenting family physicians as experts on health care issues and topics. You’ll work with partners across the organization to find and share news about family medicine that is useful and relevant to members, external partners and the media.You’ll be part of a talented, hard-working team that employs tried-and-true media relations strategies and looks for innovative ways to engage the media. You’ll also write messaging, identify and prepare spokespeople, work with internal partners to identify high-value opportunities, and identify places where social media can be used to tell the story. Each day is a little different, and successful candidates will thrive on variety and a fast-paced environment.Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:+ Serve as the PR lead and PR subject matter expert for assigned areas of the AAFP. This includes developing public relations strategies and plans to advance programs and key initiatives.+ Build and maintain relationships with members of the media who cover your assigned subject areas. This includes pitching stories, responding to media inquiries, monitoring media coverage, and engaging with reporters and spokespeople in other media relations activities.+ Develop and maintain talking points, statements, op-eds and other media relations tools, appropriately prepping spokespeople and ensuring that resources are current and relevant.+ Identify and develop pitches and proactive media activities to position family physicians and the AAFP as experts in health care and health-related topics, including trade publications, often identified through monitoring media coverage related to assigned subject areas.+ Partner with PR staff and marketing communication colleagues to identify opportunities to share media coverage, AAFP news and other items of interest via social media and other communication channels.+ Other duties, as assigned.**REQUIREMENTS:**This position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in public relations, journalism, English, and/or communications, plus at least four to six years related work experience. Must have the ability to be effective and comfortable communicating with reporters, spokespeople and internal partners. This position requires experience writing press releases, talking points and media pitches. Excellent written and verbal communications skills; aptitude for detail and accuracy; working independently and in teams; being highly organized; having a professional demeanor; and possessing strong computer skills.
