Science Writer / Editor, Internal Medicine-Infectious Disease**Galveston, Texas, United States**Research Academic & ClinicalUTMB HealthRequisition # 2403650**Minimum Qualifications:**Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field; 4 years related experience.**Job Description:**The position facilitates the gathering of noteworthy achievements in science on campus and helps translate and disseminate that information through feature articles, news releases, newsletters, social media and other communications venues.**Job Duties:**+ Researches, analyzes, and writes the majority of the text for scientific manuscripts for publication.+ Works with PI and research team to identify data to be published.+ Works with PI and Program Manager to assign and direct the development of articles written by others.+ Studies patient care histories, laboratory reports and physician's notes and assembles this data in proper journalistic form without altering its technical content.+ Reviews manuscripts and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content and/or facilitates the appropriate reviews.+ Creates and/or edits figures for presentations and publications.+ Creates and/or edits powerpoint presentations for seminars and/or meetings.+ Collaborates with internal and external researchers to generate ideas for future aims and research strategies.+ Works with PI and Program Manager to develop, write, and edit grant proposals for submission to industry, NIH, or foundations.+ Creates and maintains laboratory website, including all content.+ Writes blog post articles and tweet-orials for newsworthy occurrences related to the research team.+ May assist with development of clinical trial protocols, manual of operations, participant recruitment documents, or other related documents.+ May assist with authorship of book chapters.**Preferred Qualifications:**+ Graduate degree or equivalent in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field and two-three years related experience.+ Multiple first-author papers.+ Excellent oral and written communication skills evidenced by the ability to present information effectively in both formats.+ Strong creative and analytical skills.+ Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment.+ Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.+ Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.+ Proficiency in statistical analysis platforms.+ Produce work outcomes in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment**Salary Range****$69,385 - $90,200;** Commensurate with Experience**Equal Employment Opportunity**UTMB Health strives to provide equal opportunity employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, genetic information, disability, veteran status, or any other basis protected by institutional policy or by federal, state or local laws unless such distinction is required by law.
